RESULT!!
Sent off my second letter this morning (before action) to Barclays as I hadn't heard since I wrote to them on 18th December. Just phoned home and OH tells me I have a letter from Barclays offering me £220 of the £420 I was requesting.
Now I don't know whether to accept or go through the hassle of issuing court proceddings for the other £200. Just to get £220 is a bonus and it's all thanks to Martin, the wonderful people on this site and the Consumer site.
If you are still pondering over whether or not to go for it DON'T!

Hi, it will say "paid referral" on the left side of the page under 'details'. Best thing to do is to get yourself a highlighter pen and work your way down each page - once done get a calculator and add it all up. Didn't take me long and i have succesfully managed to get £750 back from the bank! Good luck.Best Wins of 2010 = Apple ipad & £100 Dejager vouchers:j:jJune Prizes = Kids Card game, Miners nail polish set,L'oreal million lashes mascara.0 -
Hello everyone,
first off, thanks for all the advice I've managed to gain from this site - FANTASTIC !! :T
I have a question - for Barclays customers mainly I suppose.
I'm trying to claim back £2240 for referrals and overdraft charges.
They've replied today offering £1000 !!!
Now, I assume I won't EVER be able to claim any more once I've accepted this, so, what I'd like to know is, who has taken it further than this ? I need first hand accounts of what happened and how ?
I also assume that if I threaten them with court action/and/or actually take them to court, then the offer of £1000 will be withdrawn swiftly ?
Im sure they must consider me a sufficient " fly in their ointment " to make the offer at all, im just wondering if its worth upgrading myself to " pain in their !!! "
thank you.0 -
Hello im in the same kind of situation, i bank with Barclays and wrote to them asking for £1290 charges that have been made in the last 6 years, £1485 including interest. they wrote back to me within a week offering £500 which i refused and i stated in my letter i would accept it as a part payment of the full amount to which they came back and upped their offer to £650 which i still find unacceptable. i called them and said i wanted to come to an agreement otherwise i would be taking them to a small claims court to which they said this is their final offer and basically if i wasnt happy then go ahead and take them to court so wanted to know the next step. they said i just need to send the acceptance slip back declining their offer. i would rather settle this without court but at the same time am willing to take it all the way as £650 is only half of what im owed and needed help in what to do next!0

Threaten to take it to court then ?0 -
I received a letter from them yesterday offering £220 of the £420 I had requested. I spoke to them this morning and they upped their offer to £280 with the money being in my account tomorrow. I know it's £140 short but it's money I never thought I'd see again so I decided to take it.
I think the advice and encouragement on this site is absolutley fantastic. Thanks everyone. We finally did it! Debt free 28/6/10 :T  :T :beer:0 -
I posted in another thread, I guess I should have posted here 1st though
I got a letter from Barclays HQ saying they cannot guarantee they will meet the timescales set out in my letter.
Is this a standard letter and is it likely that they will come back with an offer to keep it out of court?
I did claim back a rather large sum0 -
Right, so.....
If i take the next step ( 2nd letter - without interest ) in Martins ( excellent ) advice - I have to threaten to take it to court.
No problem, I can fill out the letter template.
Except where I have to put the name of the court ! What should I put in there ?!
Also, they've offered me £1000, which i'd like to get hold of as a partial payment of what Im owed ? Is there a template for that kind of letter ? thanks....0 -
Hi, I know Ive being very stupid but last year I didnt go through my bank statements much. I have sit down now and gone through all 2006 and found out that Ive been charged by the bank £400 in total in paid referal fees. I have had a look at the T&C of Barclays and it looks like they have not done anything wrong... I have being carged £30 each time Ive gone over my limit, to a maximun of £90 per month (many times over!)
I am a student and I just had a regular account... after going to the bank yesterday I found out that I should have a student account and that includes £1,000 free of charge overdraft... well, yesterday i swaped to a student account and got my £1k overdraft, but its a bit late now! they wont refund me any money.
Can someone help me? Is there any way I could claim some of that money back? Thanks for your help0
