  • Under the data protection act, you can only ask for copies of your entries. You cannot demand that the bank puts them into any format that is convenient for you (i.e. an edited list of charges, specifying amounts and dates).

I’ll take it, you have received an unedited list of all your entries for the last six years, and that’s all you are entitled to.

You have to do your homework and plough your way through that list.
  • I sent Martins template letter and a cheque for £10 to Barclays Data Protection on 4th January 2007. Today, 10th Jan, I recieved a letter back from Barclays stating, "Please be aware that the bank is not under any obligation to present information according to any particular format, however you may of course obtain this data from copy statements which will be supplied within the next few weeks, WITHOUT CHARGE". And they sent my £10 cheque back!! Result!!
So far so good. Will keep you updated of any further progress.
  • Bengal - its just a list of numbers - I have no problem with going through the information but there is no way to understand it. From memory as its at home - it just says cr or dr - and lists amounts. Its very basic info.

Hi - I am reclaiming £530 bank overdraft charges plus interest onbehalf o f my son, he had all his bank statements. They offered £280 as a good will gesture. I replied saying that this would be acceptable as part payment only but that court procedures would follow to reclaim the rest. They have refused and I am about to now claim via the courts - I am a little nervous that I might lose my son the £280! I think from what I can read that Barclays tend to go all the way - can any other Barclays customer confirm that they do pay up eventually. By the way his overdraft is virtually exactly his bank charges! from J's Mum. thank you
  • I just got my first letter back from Barclays Data Protection today stating the same , "Please be aware that the bank is not under obligation to present information according to any particular format etc". They did send me my £10 cheque back which is a bonus and I am now awaiting my statements. If you work out how to break your charges down let me know and hopefullt it will help me out when I get mine!!

I've just sent my letter to Barclays requesting £900 back, though £100 of this is from more than 6 years ago. Am I to take it that I won't get that back and should really only focus on the remaining £800?

I've moved your post into the Barclays thread rather than the Discussion thread so you can read other people's experiences claiming with Barclays.

Its likely that if Barclays make you an offer it will only be based on the past 6 years.
