Hi all. Not sure if I'm in the right thread here but, on the subject of Barclays, I am still awaiting correspondence from them as regards ongoing charges for o/d protection - for which I have been getting charged for since about 1998. (I say about because it is about that time that I was persuaded by their team to switch to Openplan.) Seeing as I was made redundant in December of last year, I have had a little more time to scrutinise my bank details and noticed this little chestnut, and I am certain that I didn't sign up for it. I mean, what does it do? Besides that, the bank hasn't bothered to reply to my letters (as yet!)..Anyone had anything similar? Cheers

ok, with regards to reserve i will let you in on what we are told:
firstly, no branches are to refund full stop short of it being a bank error, there is no exceptions, no excuses. With regards to claiming back, its not an bank charge like the old £35 ones use to be, its a charge for using a facility, if you use it you pay for it, the choice is yours. I guess thats the way round the charges. Upto 3 letters were sent out to customers, one person said their address was wrong, well its your responsibility to inform us, not ours to chase you about it so hardly a good excuse, sorry.

ok now thats the bank head done, on a personal side, i also bank with barclays, and the first thing i did was remove the reserve from my account. If have a payment refused without the reserve, i personally dont like the idea of it, although i know many people do. I am as fustrated as many though, were before i had the ability to refund the charge if i can see someone was struggling or if i fell for the old sob story, now i dont get the chance :/

  • wow I just got charged £22 for going into my reserve, the most annoying thing is that I have the money in another account linked to that one which me and my partner use for bills which is very much in credit, I even covered the overdrawn amount on the same day, but because it was after 6.30pm in the evening it "doesn't count". Barclays call centre annoys me too, I am going into the branch tomorrow to sort this out or moving my ISA elsewhere. sheesh

    1) are you seriously suggesting you have your money moved from a different account without your permission??
    2) read the terms and conditions, funds must be in account the previous working day before any payments due to leave account. its been there for over 10 years so hardly a new concept.

their are genuine people here who struggle financially where £22 is the difference between putting food on the table or not, just because you couldnt be bothered to transfer. I also warn you now, the branch will refuse any refund request as i stated earlier, the branches have been told no refunds under any circumstances. Sorry if this sounded quite harsh, but i have read through all the posts, and i feel sorry for the people really struggling, not people who just think they should get the best of both worlds.

Ta for the info..Interesting point here, not directly associated but defo a Barclays link. The postman's just been and guess what? Those lovely chaps at aforementioned bank are offering me a loan of up to 25k (as a special customer and all that!) Envelope no.2, " A Barclaycard Platinum with your name on it!" Not bad seeing as I was made redundant in December - (you know, I might apply for both)

Just a quick update, I got my initial letter back from Barclays yesterday after sending it on 27th Jan (very good timing i gotta say) with a list of my bank charges no statements but thats fine, total charges at £1145!! I'm utterly shocked to think how much money I wasted over the years!
    Time to attempt step two!

  • Hi guys
Just to let you know Barcalys have finally paid me a gesture of goodwill after a year and half trying to get my charges back.

I orginally claimed for £1700 back, they said no can do because of the case, wrote to them and claimed financial hardship, they said doesn;t apply. Went to financial omudsman who helped as much as they good but as I hadn't completed an income/expenditure form from barclays them until I did so he could not help me any further, asked Barclays for a form sent it back and then they sent me a letter accepting my hardship and as a good will payment of £1100, in my eyes its a result, going to demand the rest now!!!

To be honest in our present banking climate i'm over the moon

Well done for persevering! Congratulations on your 'win'. I hope you promptly took the money out of the barclays account!

    Hiya, hopefully someone can help.

I have a current account with Barclays, and without realising, went over my agreed limit. I have since learnt that they have imposed a £22 fee very 5 days, which has added up to over £400. They have worded it so its a service rather than a penalty - sneaky.
I had forgotten to change my address with them and all the letters were going to my old addres, so I didn't find out until too late when the mail was sent on to me.

I spoke to Barclays who have agreed to up my agreed overdraft, but I have to clear a set amount every month until I get it back down to the agreed level.

I know all cases for reclaiming charges are on hold at the moment, but are these "service fees" the same? Am I able to claim these back?
    Any advice for me?

    Many thanks

But I will get it over with sooner!!
