Thanks
They can not close your account just because you are reclaiming your charges back, but they can close your account for "being an awkward customer".
A bit harsh i know but thats banks for you. I didnt give them the satisfaction of closing my account..as soon as i got my £4000 back from them in April a called them and TOLD them i was comming in to withdraw ALL my money and CLOSE my account and would be there within an hour. They tried to tell me that i needed to give 48 hours notice...big mistake..i told them to have it ready as it is my money or i would be kicking up a very big stink in the bank. guess what???...yep...the money was ready an hour later.
anyway...dont be too woried if they do close your account...its just a company like any other, and they have been ripping you off.. so get rid of them anyway. And they must give you 28 days notice before closure.
Good luckNot just a white vanman:cool:

Hi everyone.
I am a student at the minute, in my second year. After leaving college and going into a job I racked up numerous bank charges and credit charges as I am sure most other people have done. back then I thought nothing of it (other than being annoyed that is, but what could I do but pay?)
After 8 or so years of accumulating these charges, Barclays must owe me a small fortune (both on my current account and my Barclaycard) and I am wondering what to do.
Financially I am broke at the minute, studying full-time and unemployed I am relying on my mum (who isn't exactly well off) for money until my next installment of my student loan comes in January.
Is it worth me sending this letter off to Barclays now? Will they reply with the current state of affairs awaiting the outcome of this hearing in January? I really could use the money as I have nowhere else to turn at the minute and hate having to ask my mum for help and with the stress of university too it is getting a little too much to handle.
Also about 5 years ago I took out a Capital One credit card with a limit of £200. After doing so and using the limit I lost my job and they kept charging me charges until the total reached £900! They passed it onto a debt recovery agency and now they say I owe them £900+. A while back I had a little extra money and said I would offer them £400 to clear the debt, which I thought was very reasonable as they were getting 100% profit really on money I borrowed but they refused. Would they be legally bound to reimburse those charges back onto the amount?
All help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Help I need some urgent advice!
I did refer to this once before but decided to sit on it for a while.
Letter 2 went into Barclays in June for over £1000 excluding interest. Because of the hold put on most cases we didn't expect to hear but in late October received a letter making us an offer of £275.00. We have 8 weeks to accept or lose the offer and the claim.
The account is not used and has an averdraft of £500.00 on it. I had told our Barclays manager that I wasn't paying this back as we were owed more but the itnerest is starting to be added on. He will no comment as it is a differnet department (?)
Should I accept the £275.00 to lower the overdraft or ignore the letter and wait for the result of this court case the Banks have started?
truthfully I just want the overdraft cleared.
If I ignore the letter can they cancel my claim?
I have to decide quickly before their deadline is up.

HELP!
Elaine just send them the letter refusing their offer and don't worry about the interest. Once you have completed this claim you can start a second claim to reclaim all the charges/interest from the date of the last claim.
I'm stuck waiting for the test case to go through then hopefully I'll get my £2700 back from Barclays.I love my nursing necklaces. Keep babies hands occupied and you free to breastfeed in peace.

Yes they can cancel your claim if you don't respond so you need to write back and say you will accept the offer in part payment and without prejudice and will continue via the courts for the remainder of your claim.
Your manager is correct in that it will be a different department that is handling claims and the interest will continue to be added to your overdraft.0 -
Thank you for the advice I will do this immediately

Main thing to do is not to worry! What type of court will you be in? In Magistrates courts and County Courts they have a service provided by "The Witness Service" which is part of Victim Support, a National Charity funded mainly by the Home Office. The purpose of the witness service is not only to support witnesses in court but to support any one who needs eg to go inside a court before an actual appearance there or maybe to see where they will be required to sit etc etc. They are there to help. Make use of them. Explain your situation and they will tell you what they can do. They are NOT allowed to discuss your case at all, merely the mechanics of attending court. Good luck.:o0

Hi,
I wrote to Barclays bank to find out my Summary of Charges.
I was sent back a Summary of Fees what covered fees and refunds over the years.
In total I was charged PAID REFERRALS TOTAL: £645.00 AND
UNPAIDS OUT: £100.00 In total fees I have charged £745.00
Which of these charges if any can I reclaim. What should I do re: the impending OFT case?
Thanks.0
