  • I'am thinking about reclaiming my charges with Barclays.I have two accounts with a £1,200 overdraft on each , will they make me clear my overdraft first ? I am going to set up a parachute account, with a different bank in the new year, but i do not think i will be able to get an overdraft to the value of £2,400 to cover both accounts with barclays. If anyone has been in a similar situation i would be gratefull to hear from you.

  • Slipper - no they won't make you clear your overdrafts first. I have a £800 overdraft with Barclays and I have been offered £750 back in bank charges from them, also they have not closed my account as yet. Start your claim asap.

    I sent the first template letter off 2 weeks ago asking for £125 bank charges back which have happened in the last year and barclays credited my account on the 29th December which was great (only took 8days). But I didn't realise you could claim back for 6years and about 5yrs ago I had loads in one year at £25 each and I would like to claim them back. Do I just send the letter to barclays asking for a list of charges in last 6yrs? How much do i need to send by cheque with it for this service? Do you think they will pay up if they have already given me 125 back for this year?

    Carly, if you follow martins tips about claiming your charges back then trust me you just can't go wrong, if i can do it then any one can. you will need to send the letter template of askig for a list of charges with a cheque for £10 and then if they are true to form they will send you a letter back with your cheque saying that your statements will follow in a few weeks.
    £125 is nothing to Barclays, i am claiming £3500 and submitted county court papers now, after sending my first letter in September, so it can take a little longer for larger amounts and you could be in for a wait, but you never know you may get lucky.

    Hi all

    First would like to say a fantastic web site.... its packed full of great info :T

    First heard about this about 6months ago but foolishly didnt look into it further until now :o

    I will be starting a claim with Barclays Bank, but have a few questions for those that have either had success or failures with Barclays (as from what i have read they appear to be one of the worst Banks to try and get these charges back)

    Firstly i have a couple concerns... i am a very recent dad (7 weeks ago) and i certainly cannot afford right now to not have a bank account or pay any large fees/fines

    My credit history to be frank is terrible... would this have any kind of bearing on my claim with Barclays ?

    I also have a Barclays loan (roughly 5k o/s) would i run the risk of them claiming the lot back in one go ?

    There are soooo many different charges (some i have received letters for stating they are charging me this amount etc etc) are all these claimable aswell ? even if my Account Terms and conditions state these fees ?


    Im sure that these questions are answered somewhere... but soo many threads and info, its a alot to try and take in :o

    Many thanks for any help... as if i can get some cash back from all this it could not come at a better time in my life

    I will also look into opening a 'Parachute account'

    But I like many others am worried that after credit problems i wont beable to open an account somewhere else

    What Banks would people advise to open a new account with ?
    I dont want to be going from the Frying pan into the Fire :confused:

    I'm about to send off my letters to ask for my bank charges back. The problem is that I have no income at the moment so I can't pay the £10 to pay for my bank statements.

    My account I hope to claim charges on still has an overdraft on it and though I can not afford to pay it back I have asked the bank to charge the £10 to my account?

    Is this a reasonable request or are they likely to refuse and not send me my statements? :(

    I'm new here, but already found loads of good advice.

    My problem is this....

    I want to claim my charges back from Barclays but I am also due to start to work for Barclaycard in the next couple of weeks!!!!!

    Has anyone had any experience in claiming from the people that you work for?

    I really need the money, but don't want to affect my new job.

    Any advice would be great.

  • I am now at the stage where I am going to apply to court against barclays - they have taken 3 months so far to get to this stage. When I requested my statements for the past 6 years, they sent me statements from year 2000 onwards. I included charges from this year when asking for refund but now I am applying to court do i inlude them or not as don't want to lose £120
