Stick to your own schedule, not theirs. They won't come back with anything worth listening to on the 8th January, 22nd January or any other date until they are made to. Assuming that they don't settle in full some time next week, carry on regardless.

I would conduct everything by letter. I am wary of dealings on the phone. If you write you have proof of everything that goes on. And I doubt they'd come up with anything worth hearing, unless you are willing to settle low.
  • Thanks for that Silvercharming. I will post next letter on 9th if I haven't heard anything. Happy New Year to you all.

    Hi all.
I received a letter from Barclays yesterday (Saturday 23rd December 2006).
It says that they're sorry I had to contact them about the level of service I've received...they'll look into my concerns and let me have an answer or update as quickly as possible but no later than January 18th 2007.
They added "thanks for bringing this to our attention".
Looking forward to their next letter now.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

dont wait till the 18th. stick to your deadline and send that next letter on the 14th day of the deadline, or do as i have done with all of my letters... just walk into my bank and hand it over with a big fat smile on my face ...it feels great. good luck.

  • Update

Claim against Barclaycard £ 384.5 incl interest. Have today received a response to my letter dated 14th Dec. Letter from Katrina Downs
Customer Relations Manger Barclaycard Manchester saying my corresondence is being looked into and a reply will be sent by 23rd Jan 2007.
Have replied today giving them 7 days to resolve or i will issued immediate proceedings in the County Court. (my timetable and not Barclaycard!)

Claim against Barclays Bank £2093.01 incl interest. No reply to my letter dated 14th December so i have sent then another letter today giving them 7 days to respond or i will issue procedings in the County Court.

I'm about to start down this road with Barclays. From what I've heard, get a parachute account in place, they can get a bit shirty.

    Best of luck.
 It is a bit of a hair rasing experience ,but stick at it. I have just recieved £2333 from Nationwide bank due to all this publicity. I did have to go through the court and about a week after i got out the court papers they panicked and gave me my cash back. Remember people it's YOUR money and you have a right to this back. Next is Barclays and they have been a little more tricky. They are playing hard ball. They sent a "defense" allthough it was just a load of babble (trying to scare me). It didn't work. Now I have a court hearing date of february 27th at 10am and I am so :j axcited for my day in court. I will show Barclays up for the thieving corrupt organisation that they are. How dare they! Don't be scared ...in legal terms they haven't got a leg to stand on! After that court date I will be almost £4,000 better off. I can't wait...

You hang in there and don't let them scare you!!

I am about to claim charges back from Barclays up to today but what do I do about any charges that I get from today until they pay up? One person mentioned it took them 5 months to get money back from Barclays - that could be a whole load more charges for me. Can I then start the process again to reclaim those back?
Just add the amount on to your total. Keep sending letters to the court for judge's attention and they will be added to your final amount. That's what I have been doing.Keep the court informed and keep a record yourself (very important)....Good luck,

  • I received a letter yesterday saying that they are sorry I had to contact them about the level of service I have received and they will contact me no later than 22nd January. Their 14 days is up on the 8th January. Do I wait for them to contact me or send the second letter on the 8th?
They have also said that if I wish to discuss the matter I can phone them. Do I do that or do everything by letter?
Don't wait for their date...remember it's YOU who are calling the shots...It's YOUR money. Keep to your date and don't let them scare you. They try to cloud the issue with "level of service" nonsence. The real issue is your money. Stick to your guns, be brave and you will succeed. Take them to court. That seems to be the only language they seem to understant or respond to. Thay won't take you sereously until you show them you are serious. I am getting all my friends to do this and my mum has recieved two payments from two banks Nationwide ) and ( first direct). You can do the same...good luck,

  • I recently set up a direct debit to a credit union account to come out on the 1st of every month. I placed the money in my Halifax account on 30/12/06 to cover the direct debit. On 31/12/06 I got an email from my bank saying the Credit Union had attempted to take the money on the 29/12/06 as it was over the new year period and they are charging me £39.00 for a failed direct debit. I contacted the Halifax helpline and asked for the charge to be cancelled but they refused. Is there anything I can do???????

Contact the credit union. If your small print says the DD 'on or after to x of each month', they are in breach of contract for trying to take money they are not entitled to until the 1st. As far as I am aware all DDs are set up in this manner, but just check in case it says they can take it out earlier.

Write to halifax asking that they withdraw the chance. Threaten to go to the press and to take them to small claims court. If they still refuse, then carry out that threat.
  • I claimed £1008.24 from them in early December, and they offered me £355. I took a very deep breath and rejected it - paid my £120 court fees and started the small claims process through the Moneyclaim site. The deadline for responding to my claim is today (31st Dec) and I've heard nothng so far.
So tomorrow morning I'm going to go for judgement by default and demand the lot. I would have settled for half (probably - depends on my mood).

I have actively moved my overdraft on to a 0% credit card before starting the process and I do have other products through them (lots of insurances). If they dump my account I'll be cross but it'll not be the end of the world.
