  • Hi,

I've just ahd an offer from barclays bank for half the total of my charges. Should I accept the offer or push for what I am legally entitled to? If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

What have they offered you? What was the total of your charges & how much was interest?

Most banks offer the total charges but NOT interest, you will onyl get the interest via the courts. Some banks may not offer you the full amount but are prepared to negotiate if they think it will save hassle & your not goin to go down the route of court & the FO

I telephoned Barcalys to order my statements (after sending a letterthat they deny any knowledge of) and i was wondering if i could do the same to request the charges back as i don't want them denying knowledge of my letter again . Has anyone done this?

    Hi

I had to phone three times for my statements on the third time i mentioned it was to get my charges back and the lady set up a complaint for me on the phone, called back the same day with my reference number. Once my statements arrived sent the letter with a copy of all the charges on quoting the reference number and final amount. So I would ring but also send the letter recorded to cover yourself, however watch that they don't open the letter as another complaint with a new ref number as they did with us but a quick ring again sorted it onto the original complaint. All I have recieved back so far is a standard letter saying look into our complaint should hear back by 10.7 but lady on the phone says this will probably just be another delaying letter.

    Good luck sarah
  • Hi everyone.
I'm claiming back £3110 from Barclays (including £120 Moneyclaim costs). They have now decided to dispute it and as such it now has to go to court.. Is this quite normal and if so how much longer is it likely to go on?

Just about the same amount and I got the same we will defend on Friday. Think we have to wait for our date in court then start putting our bundle together. Good Luck.
  • I wrote to Barclays on 30th April 2007 requesting they refund charges of £328 from an account closed several years ago. They replied that there were no charges - they have recently merged with Woolwich and had confused the Barclays account with a Woolwich account I also hold. I wrote again on 21st March, stressing that charges were from the Barclays account. I also informed the Ombudsman - their opinion was that it was a genuine mistake. A letter from Barclays on 4th July stated that they disagree they owe me charges - mainly because they keep referring to a Woolwich account which has rarely been used and has incurred not charges!!!

What do you MSE's think I should do? Should I write, yet again, and stress that it is charges from Barclays not Woolwich? Ring them? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
  • Hi,

My claim has ran for about 7 months. It was due for court this week but the bank settled in full about 6 days before.

I was nervous as time went on but pleased I took it this far now.

    Keep the faith!

Having made my claim for 3 accounts, mine, my husbands and our joint account on 25th April, I had 2 confirmation letters delaying their decision until 5th July. Their response has now come I was claiming a total of £1995 including interest (£1635 without) and they are offering me £1205 as goodwill gesture.
Should i take it and go quietly or keep on?
Following Martins advice I did phone them but they say that my only course of action is through the financial ombudsman as in the letters they sent.
This offer is 74% of the actual charges without interest so I suppose quite good, but I know others have been offered the whole amount.
Also my husband made a mistake with his account last month and was charged 3 times a total of a further £90. He has just phoned to complain and got 1 charge taken off...
It would be great to hear others opinions, thanks!
