Elaine, i and my mum received this letter to and it seems to 'norm' and i posted asking for advice too, the nearest i can figure out from one answer i got was stick to my timetable, i am sending my follow up letters with court action 14 days from the date they say they received the letter. its entirely upto you what u want to do, u can give them the 14 days u originally said or give them upto the 4 weeks
good luck and keep me posted
kind regards

Will do cat! I've already successfully cliamed from the Woolwich - money due in my account by next week. I waited rather than go tocourt as the Woolwich are a little more organised. But the Barclay account is another matter!
I had a letter this morning from the 'personal banker' to say he is looking into our complaint and will try and work out if there are any charges on our account to claim back. Er, not only have we had two lots of statements through but I lodged a claim for £1000 over a week ago.
I will leave the chap alone and see what he comes up with - this is the man I complained to ages back when we hadn't recieved the statements - shows how slow he is.
I will send the 14 day letter just to gee them up a bit more.
Good luk with your claim.
Elaine
PS this claim is my husbands old business account that we want to close down when they've paid us back.0 -

Hi
Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on a current claim I have with Barclays.
My claim has gone to MCOL, and Barclays have acknowledged (typically right at the last minute!) They now have until the 18th to file their defence. Reading through various other members stories, I imagine they will submit a defence, which again will be recd at the last minute. However, other members have reported a success in calling Barclays Legal Dept to reach a settlement once it has been referred to their local court. Does anyone know if it would be worth my while, doing this once they have submitted their defence? (so it saves me having to pay out another £100 to transfer to my local court) Any thoughts would be gratfully appreciated. Thank you..0 -

Even if they still make an unacceptable offer, it will do your case no harm whatsoever when the judge reads that you have still been trying to reach a settlement.
However, remember that, in any negotiation, you never tell your adversary what you might settle for. That is for them to offer you. Its like an Arab market, but in reverse: you start high, they start low. Now is the time to use the interest as a bargaining chip.
Our friends over on the Consumer Action Group are more into what they call "Nudge Letters".

Thanks for your advice. I will give it a go and see what happens. Will also update my result for anyone else in the same position.0

hi guys,
hope someone can help me!!! I recieved my statements from barclays today, but am confused on what i can reclaim...i have looked on the "what you can and cant reclaim help thread" but am still unsure. On my statements it shows alot of bonced cheques (i know i can reclaim these), but directly under each bounced cheque there is an interest fee. some are small (£1.80) and some are more (£16.88) are any of these reclaimable?
Also it may be worth mentioning that my account was over the agreed overdraft limit? Does this have any affect on it?
Thanks in advance.0 -
I just rang Barclays as I was asking for an address to send a letter to about my bank charges. The man on the phone put me on hold to speak to the relevant depatement then came back and took all the details over the phone. The period of the charges, the total amount and interest amount. Said I will hear back from them within 7 days so wait and see what happens I suppose.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Sounds hopefull, already had a lengthy process with nationwide and won out of court (full settlement £900) This is only for a small amount (£300) fingers crossed, sounds like they might skip all the letter process and pay out!!0 -
Hi there!
Im wondering if anyone can help me?? I have read through but cant seem to find anything that answers my question!
I sent the second letter to Barclays totalling my charges and requesting our money back and giving them 14 days to reply, it has been a week and they have replied saying:
"...May I take this opportunity to explain that whilst we will endeavour to respond to you within your timescale outlined in your letter, we cannot guarantee that we will do so.
Sometimes it does take longer to fully investigate a complaint. However we do aim to find a solution within four weeks.
If we are not able to do so we will always write to you explaining what is happening, a full update on our progress will be sent to you within eight weeks..."
Im confused of what i should do next! What does this mean and what must i do next, i cant find a letter or any info from where i should go from here, please please if anyone could help it would be much appreciated!!
Thank you everyone in advance!;)0
