  • Does anyone know what this stands for on Barclays statements:

    CR BANKS
    REF 142 ************* BCC £35.00

....and more importantly, can you claim it?

    Thank you in advance!

Can anybody advise me. I am going to try to get the unlawful bank charges back on behalf of a friend just going through a messy divorce.

She tried to close her Joint Barclays current account down when she split with her husband, they said they needed both signatures, her husband wouldn't sign so it stayed open. He carried on putting dd's through but wouldn't pay any money in and refuses to tell her or the bank his address. The account became overdrawn with charges incurred. Eventually the bank allowed my friend to close the account, (strange that!!), but she has to pay back £20 per month to pay off the balance.

If she tries to re-claim her bank charges are they able to demand she pays all the money, (about £2000), immediately. She would be unable to do this so it is putting her off trying to get these fees back. She has already opened a parachute account.

As an aside, she also wishes to find out where some money went that her husband paid for by Bacs transfer, is she able to ask the bank who this money went to? It was a large sum of money that she didn't know he had spent. Considering the account is now closed how would she best go about it?

    Many thanks
  • Hi,
I did the same thing...sent my cheque off with the letter to Barclays Data Protection.
After 40 days (today) I called the general current account phone line, to be told by the loveliest girl that Barclays do NOT charge for giving out statements of all your charges..it's free. She then organised to send me out a statement immediately. Apparently it might take a bit of time to arrive, as they are getting so many of these requests, but it was as simple as that!
So..don't send a letter or cheque, just call them direct and be VERY sweet like I was ;-) (number: 08457 555555)
The address for sending your claim to is:
    Barclays Bank PLC
    Leicester
    LE87 2BB

Having received my statements from Barclays I sent my first letter to them asking for my money back on 16/5/07 (1st class recorded). According to the online tracker it has still not been delivered. Should I wait for it to be returned to me then take another copy of the letter into the branch by hand or send it to a different address or should I send another copy straight away. I don't want to confuse the process by them receiving two identical letters on different dates but I also want this resolved ASAP and don't want to wait however many weeks for RM to return my letter to sender.

  • Hi all,
I recieved this notice through MCOL this morning.
To be honest Im a little worried.

You are unable to take any further action online on this claim.

The Defendant disputes the whole amount you have claimed. Your claim cannot proceed online and will be transferred to the appropriate court for continuation. You will receive confirmation to where the claim has been transferred to shortly.

    What happens now?
What have i got to do?
    how long have I got?
I have to get all the answers so I can get my plan of action!
    Can anyone help me please.

    Thanks.

    Hello there,

I have sent the 2nd letter requesting charges totalling £1380.14 inc. interest, after receiving the lame reply the first time saying they'll get back to me in 4 weeks...blahblahblah, and i'm due a reply by Thurs 31st May... I was wondering if it's worth calling them to see if they'd settle at £1170 (the total without interest). Has anyone phoned them at this stage? If so, what number did you call and what did you say? Also, what were they like on the phone? I don't want to be talked into settling for less....

    Scared! Help!

It means that the automated aspect of your claim has now finished.

What has to happen is that you case will first go to Northampton Crown Court, from there it will be passed to your local County Court.

At this stage you need to do some reading so that you can understand what you have got into.
Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.
  • I've sent off the second letter, detailing charges on my Wife's account to the value of £965.00 (I decided NOT to charge interest) -- Fingers crossed.

I've sent of the first letter to Barclaycard for my Wife, so waiting to hear back.

I've got my HSBC statements to go through tonight also.

Got a feeling I'm going to make lots of money or nothing at all, lol..
That tends to happen in my life, aww well -- here's hoping!

Thanks again to Martin and all who are helping support/fund this terrific web site!!
