I wrote and told them that, in the absence of communication from Barclays, I would just issue a claim in the maximum amount possible. That seemed to spur them into action!Claimed back in 2007

Hi Guys & Gals!
I'm a complete noobie, I'm about to send my letter (recorded delivery) to Barclays about claiming my charges back, i'm worried that they are gonna cancel direct debits/standing orders and reduce my "free" overdraft, is there anything i can do to try and stop this happening?
Can anyone suggest a good parachute account (i'm not fussed if its with another bank or building society), also, how soon do you all suggest i set thsi new account up?
Thanks
Caroline

Hi Caroline,
The most recommended account appears to be Alliance & Leicester. I've banked with them for the past 14 years and overall I would say they have been pretty good until now (guess what, I'm putting in a claim and they will probably close my account, hey ho). I've just opened an account with the Co-Op as my credit history is poor and they took about 15 minutes on the phone for a basic account with Electron card. Depends on your circumstances really. First Direct turned me down. Hope this helps:dance: Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Getting exciting.
Barclays acknowleged my MCOL and I'm waiting for Barclays standard defence. Kinda wish I'd gone for contractual interest now.

Hi Caroline,
Sorry if I'm being dumb, but not sure what you meant by "pm it through". Here it is anyway 08457 212 212. I've given you a thanks as you're a little newer than me, I know I was really chuffed with my first one

Hi,
I sent off a letter to my bank, Barclays, requesting statements from my account for the last 6 years. This was the first letter just requesting my statements - not a letter regarding the amount I have been charged.
On the 30th April I received a letter from them, part of which states:-
'In your correspondence you have referred to elements which you feel support your claim. Barclays is aware of the information you have drawn to our attention.....' I can't quite work this out as I have not even sent the letter regarding what I want to claim back or even how much it is for the last 6 years.
It then goes on to offer me £1,525.00 towards the total amount to what they said I was seeking - even though I hadn't got the statements to be able to write to them with any amount of what 'I was seeking'. It seems to me that they are pre-empting peoples claims and then sending out an automatic letter with an amount from what they have calculated.
They also say 'If you are dissatisfied with my proposal for resolving your complaint you may ultimately be eligible to refer to the Financial Ombudsman Service'.
I have since found out from visiting my local bank to question this that they have done this to get through their backlog of claims, and have calculated my charges at £2025.00. I have eight weeks to decide whether to accept this or not so have told them that I still want my account details to go over - especially as they have also sent me two letters to do with me going over my overdraft limit this month (£60.00).
I just wanted to get an idea from others as to whether this is a good amount for them to offer, given the total charges I have, and also if the fact that they have pre-empted their reply without me even sending a letter is likely to cause any problems in the future to do with me going through this process.
I hope this all makes sense.
Thanks.
