Hi, I sent my letter to Barclays asking for charges of £2,800 back after sending 6 years statements. I had letter saying they were looking into it and will give me an answer on April 2nd, sure enough, the day cam eand went with nothing so last Thursday i sent them a letter saying I will be taking them to court in 14 days, Im really scared, never done anything like this before. What do i do when the 14 days have gone? just follow the procedure as shown on site?0

YES. Keep going. chances are you will have to go through MCOL but you can add 8% then if that softens the blow....
Good LuckStick to YOUR timescale. Dont take ANY bull. DONT be intimidated. The law is on OUR side.Feel free to thank me if I was a help

I posted Barclays a letter today informing them I will be taking them to court immediately after previously sending them other letters of a settlement figure and not hearing anything back within the time peiod I set them. Tonight I need to complete the MCOL step of my claim. I didn't want it to go this far but hey ho it has so I'll just have to deal with it. Is there a slight nagging in the back of my mind? A slight apprehension of what might happen? A voice telling me that I shoulda just taken the offer that they gave me? Ya damn right there is! God I never thought I'd be doing anything like this, but I'm not the only one, I'm not the first and certainly won't be the last.
Today I expressed my doubts to my wife about maybe I should've just taken their offer and she said to me "if you owed them money and you said to them "tell you what how about if I just give you this much and we'll call it quits" they'd tell you to get stuffed and send in the bailiffs"She's a wise woman my missus...
So take heed you're not alone, not in the slightest0 -

i rang barclays today as i have had the additions account for the past 3 years and i asked about downgrading to a regular account but the woman informed me that because i use my overdraft, that i will be charged more than the additions fee in interest becaise i get a preferential rate on the 1st £250 of my overdraft..and with a regular account, the interest will be 15% on any amount of overdraft used..anyone know if this is correct!
Cheers
Hi Rebekah
I too had Additions, have cancelled it, so am SAVING £14 per month. Unless your overdraft is HUGE, there is no way you would be charged at £14 a month, so don't let them try to frighten you into keeping it. I have an overdraft facility and when I was using it, bank charges approx £4 a month.
If you look on the Barclays website (https://www.barclays.co.uk) it states that authorised overdrafts are charged at 1.22% per month (http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?task=articleFWgroup&value=6294&target=_self&site=pfs)
It's the EAR that is 15.6%.
So, you are paying £14 a month (£168 a year) for the privilege of paying no interest on first £250 of your overdraft. All amounts over £250 are charged at 0.79% per month, EAR 9.9%
Hope this helps

I was in the same predicament and couldn't work out the sums (unfortunately no one on MSE came to my rescue) so I down graded my account to 1st additions which is £6.50 a month.0
