Barclays Bank (merged)

Hi,
After following the guides & advice on this site (which were very helpful/appreciated), Barclays have offered to £2000 to settle a claim of £2500.
Timetable of events:
Requested statements at branch just before christmas - received them four weeks later - £5 charge
7th February sent the first letter template requesting charges be repaid - received response two weeks later stating they would look into it & I would recieve a response by 9th March. Wasn't in a major hurry so waited till then when I received an offer of £1000.
20th March (told u I was slow!) sent tham a letter rejecting the £1000 (using the with interest at court letter template - interest pushed the claim to £3000)
3rd April received an increased offer of £ 2000 - not the full amount but enough to pass my hassle vs gain test!
Thanks to this site I am considerably better off than before & satisfied I took barclays on & won.
I know some would have pushed for the full amount & good luck if you do - I'm happy!!

Apologies if this is not the best forum for the topic, but it seemed the most appropriate.
I have a current account with Barclays and use a debit card. I have not negociated anything on overdrawls with the bank.
Yesterday I became overdrawn (balance is now -£24.xx) after forgetting that I had sent a £66 cheque for a new passport. Due to the day being Saturday, I was unable to get to the bank and pay in the cash to stop me being overdrawn by the end of the day.
So at the end of the working day I was overdrawn and I still am, and still will be until tuesday due to bank holiday.
I have never been overdrawn before, so I am unfamiliar with the system.
I had a look at the: Rates and Charges but got confused. Will I be charged £30 for going overdrawn and then interest ontop of that until I pay it back?

give barclays a call today, explain the situation and they will more than likely give you a temporary overdraft or stop the charge. Banks are usually quite good when you speak to them over stuff like this especially if the account has been well serviced.0

Hi any one help, sent letter to barclays rejecting there offer of 640 when i was claiming 1500, and said i was taking them to court in five days if they didn't make another offer, that was in feb and to date have not heard anything back from them, now my problem is that since the original letter i have been charged another 180 pounds, can i still go streight to court or do i need to send that last letter again, but with the added charges on
thank to anyone who can help me0 -
I reckon you should go to court (MCOL) and send them a letter informing them of this....put in your letter that you'll also be asking for all charges to you have incurred to-date now totaling £???...and will only stop once payment has been made in full, etc...

I got the standard letter back after enclosing £10 cheque and asking for my statements. It said, "Barclays will on this occassion send copy statements free of charge " and sent my cheque back. However, they also stated that data prior to 2000 is held manually and thereofre there will be delay in sending me my statements. Data prior to 2000 is of no cencern to me as its outside the 6 year deadline. I have written to them explaining this but had no response. Still there was no sign of the statements either, so I logged a complaint at the call centre with a refernence and wrote another letter again explaining that I have not requested data prior to 2000, and there should be no delay as a consequence. However I ve still received no reply or my statements. Its been about 5-6 weeks now. Any advice.
Thanks very much
Hi I posted this week back, has this happened to anyone? Im still waiting for statements. The call centre says there no record of it and have logged a request for statements that will take on average a month. This will be way over the initial 40 day request under data protection act, I mentioned this and said I would report to necessary channels if they didnt arrive in 40 days. Didnt seem bothered , said will have to just wait for them. I also wrote 4 letters explaining i didnt require data prior to 2000 etc with no reply to either.
any one else had this?
thanks0 -
OK, i have my statements back from Barclays (took 36 days & 2 phone calls) and i am going to send off my 2nd letter tomorrow to claim back £345.
Do i send copies of the actual statements with the charges highlighted or is the print out from the calculator on this site good enough ? It has listed them all in date order with the interest.
Thanks in advance.

Use the 'Statutory Interest Calculator' on this page m8...just put in the dates and amounts you was charged...you might have to copy the info you get to excel or word spreadsheet as the dates you get back are U.S (ie. 2nd april 07 reads 04/02/07) nor are their any details of the charges (paid referals, refused cheque, etc) which you will probaly need once you go to court...
Good Luck!

Read this PasPer2...What your sending now doesn't have to be too detailed...ie. marked 'paid referal', etc, beside each charge...You only really need to add that lot when you go to court, because obviously the judge doesn't have all that info, where as the bank does...Not too sure if you can just send photocopies of your statements?!? Don't see why not though, if you wanted to...0 -

Have you wrote to or been in touch with the ICO yet m8? Thats about all i can suggest...I was lucky/sad cause i had all my statements so i don't know what else you can do...I can imagine that the call centre staff are less than enthusiastic in helping you...have you tried calling there complaints dept? You might get more joy from them (maybe?)...Did you send your letters recorded delivery? If not, i'm afraid i can't see what else to do but wait, and inform the ICO whats happened and see what they say...0 -
Hello guys,
I’m bit confused about my options with regards to my case!
I filed a court claim on the 28th March – Meaning their 14 days would be up tomorrow I think??
However Barclays have transferred about ¾ of the amount into my account as a goodwill gesture?
Does this mean they have acknowledge the claim and how long do they have now?
Any help would be great
Thanks0
