Barclays Bank (merged)

Hi everyone, know this is a bit unrelated, but after watching that Whistleblower show a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that Barclays have been charging me £10 every month for several years to have an additions account (basically a bank account with 'extras' that you'll never use - a cheeky way to get an extra tenner off customers!).
I know just how you feel, and yes you can do something about it because i already am. i called them last week and asked them what it was for, and they said it was extras like car breakdown cover and life insurence. i told them i never asked for it and never would as i have cover of my own and would not need to pay for two lots of cover. i have asked them to provide a hard copy of my signature as proof for this and they said they would look into it. i got a letter back yesterday saying they will reply to me no later than 24th April. but she did say on the phone that i would be able to get refund.
so give them a ring and see what they have to say.
good luck.Not just a white vanman:cool:

I sent a letter asking barclays for £1865 in charges and then also £336.44 in interest, so in total i have asked for £2201.44.
I received a letter saying that i was charged fairly and all that however as a gesture of good will they are willing to refund me £1400.00, i am considering if i should accept this or not.
It is £800 short of what i asked.
What is everyone else's view?
thanks0 -

its not easy when you get an offer like that but what you must remember is that; yes you can ask for the interest but the bank does not have to pay this by law unless you have started the court action so infact you are only about £400 short. so you have to ask yourself "can you live without the £400" only you can answer that one. thats not a bad offer at all.
i dont want to put you off but i started my claim in october 06 and have a court date for 16 april. so it would take a long time to get that £400.Not just a white vanman:cool:

Yay i finally got my back log of statements back from Barclays today
My question is: What address should i send the request for a refund of charges to?
The statements came from Customer Services in Leicester but i'm sure i sent my letter asking for them to a different address, if anyone does know the correct address to send them to i'd be most grateful if they would let me know0 -
All,
Going to send the letter to the bank today and see what happens. Before I do, there are a couple of things I would love to be clear on.
I am claiming for two accounts I had with Barclays, does the one cheque for £10 cover both or do I need to write a letter for each account and treat them seperately (both are current accounts which are no longer in use as I have a new account with a new bank)?
Also, who is the cheque made payable to?
Many thanks.0 -

Its a pleasure to be here, please help and tell me if this has happened to any?
I got the standard letter back after enclosing £10 cheque and asking for my statements. It said, "Barclays will on this occassion send copy statements free of charge " and sent my cheque back. However, they also stated that data prior to 2000 is held manually and thereofre there will be delay in sending me my statements. Data prior to 2000 is of no cencern to me as its outside the 6 year deadline. I have written to them explaining this but had no response. Still there was no sign of the statements either, so I logged a complaint at the call centre with a refernence and wrote another letter again explaining that I have not requested data prior to 2000, and there should be no delay as a consequence. However I ve still received no reply or my statements. Its been about 5-6 weeks now. Any advice.
Thanks very much
Hi I posted this week back, has this happened to anyone? Im still waiting for statements. The call centre says there no record of it and have logged a request for statements that will take on average a month. This will be way over the initial 40 day request under data protection act, I mentioned this and said I would report to necessary channels if they didnt arrive in 40 days. Didnt seem bothered , said will have to just wait for them. I also wrote 4 letters explaining i didnt require data prior to 2000 etc with no reply to either.
any one else had this?

sorry, cos i hadn't seen this thread and had put this same story elsewhere...but i thought it was worth repeating!
several years ago, my partner worked away alot, much of the time abroad. he got payed in cash-so there were many occasions when it was impossible to get the money required for the joint account in on a regular, weekly basis. the dd's were as reasonably spread through the month as possible, which in certain respects didn't help. the vast majority of the time, the money that was required to cover them went in each month-but it crossed with money going out, sometimes only by a matter of hours. barclays would let stuff go over the overdraft limit one month and charge us, the next month they would simply chuck stuff out. then they changed the rules so that the could do both-costing us nearly £200 a month on occassions. countless times i rang them up, almost begging for an overdraft extension on the joint account so that it would cover us for the few days later that it would be before my partner could get the money in. i explained time and again what the situation with his work was, and that they must be able to see that enough money would eventually be in the account. they always refused, the excuse being that WE were mis-handling the account-completely ignoring the fact that i'd explained what the circumstances were. yet they quite happily extended the overdraft on my own personal account by far, far more than i was asking them to extend the joint account overdraft by. go figure....
am now in the process of trying to claim all those charges back. hardly a month went by without the joint account getting charged something, so i'm expecting the total to add up to at least £2-3000. i've sent the first letter off asking for a list of the charges, and was told by the lady i asked for the address that the £10 cheque was unnecessary andthat the info would be provided for free. i've been waiting for 2 weeks. i know that they're allowed up to 40 days- but having read some other people's experiences i'm a little twitchy already that they may make things difficult because of the amount of money potentially involved...0
