  • OK...decided to push the button and go for this, I must have paid a good 2-3 grand in charges over the last 6 years. I sent my letter to Barclays requesting statements on 2nd March and received a letter on 21st from Barclays saying they will get the statements to me within the 40 day limit and returning my £10 cheque.
I have a £3900 overdraft limit across 2 accounts and am always close to the limit. I've taken Martins advise here and opened an account with Alliance & Leicester but have just asked them to put the salary and payments transfer on hold while I take steps to decrease my overdraft ( They will only offer me a maximum of £2,000 Overdraft which is the larger of the 2 I have on my Barclays accounts).
I've also just successfully applied for an Egg Money card as suggested by Martin, whereby I will be able to pay money to my Barclays accounts to decrease the O/D from the Egg Card (for no fee). The interest rate is also only 7.9%, which is less than Barclays charge me for the O/D.

It sounds like I've still got a long way to go, but I'll keep you all posted.

BTW - What was this Whistleblower programme that was on TV the other night? Is there a BBC / ITV web link to it?
  • Hi, I'm sure this question has been asked before but there's 59 pages and not much time! What is the best address to write to to start the process of reclaiming? I could send it to my account holding branch but I know with HSBC for example they only forward it on somewhere else anyway...

    Many thanks :)

It's about banks and the dodgey ways of operating
If your on NTL/Virgin media its on the on demand service, whats more its a free one so you can watch it wheneva you like.

    ill be watching it tonite

good luck with reclaimin those charges
  • Thanks djtruesound & vanman7. However despite receiving my letter informing me that they are looking to resolve my claim by 20th April I received a letter today with an offer of £1680, my claim was originally for £2260.

I'll reply thanking them but I wish to continue with the full claim (there's something written on this thread that I will copy...I hope).

I was surprised at how tempting seeing an offer for 75% of my original claim is!!! But I've spent the money now (in my head) and want a little bit more...
  • Oh and I by chance saw that Whistleblower programme the other night. I was absolutely DISGUSTED. Corrupt branch managers, jeering about people getting charged... what on EARTH is wrong with people? It's pretty much why I was spurred on to get my charges back from Barclays today! Plus the ex-worker who supposedly revealed the costs of bank charging to be an estimated £2 compared to £35!

But whilst the whole fraud thing is disgraceful, it doesn't surprise me too much that it's going on... The thing that really got me was the poor old man who went into the branch and after being declined a loan for £500 that heartless ***** of a barclays worker tried to scare him into buying home insurance. The man couldn't even afford a bed for goodness sake. Sick.

Sorry i think i should go and vent my anger in the appropriate forum!! Now how about that address :o
  • Pygmalion you need to look on this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=400981

how long do barclays usually take to send the statements to you? i have sent the letter off to them asking for them, and they have received it as it has been signed for! thanks
  • Barclays will make you wait and wait, and use dirty low life tactics to frighten you away.

Stick with it, Barclays will end up paying more than other banks as it seems they will take everyone all the way to court, so eventually they will pay more back than they ought too.

And to think that this is a bank that is suppost to be carefull with money?

I am hoping for 300 pound extra just because they will allow me to take them to court.

I say everyone should hope that they take it to the courts,

you will be better off !!!
  • Ive also been told from a friend that works in Barclays branch, that they are losing customers by the day due to the way barclays are dealing with these issues.
Seems like Barclays are standing strong for now but are slowly losing the war !!!
