  • CB - we asked for £3,250 and they offered us £2,500 we accepted as it. It is more useful for us here and know than waiting, if you can wait, then I would suggest you reject it by phone and see what they say, if it will make a significant difference now, accept.

  • Juan Pablo,

Sounds like I'm at a similar stage in this to you, I sent my letter off to them just about three weeks ago, and have heard nothing, although to be fair I didn't expect to until about day 39! I did send a gentle reminder letter to say that according to my calculations you have until the 11th April to forward my statements to me, after which if I haven't recieved them I will be reporting this breach to the IC.

I have been wondering whether a phone call would speed things up, but given last nights programme, I'm not sure what sort of response I would get. It seems that most other banks store statements going back years, but for some reason Barclays only go back a few months.

I was also incensed by the programme, I can't wait to close my account. I've got one waiting to parachute into when the time is right!

I type quicker than I can think.....

I meant to say in my post above ^^^^^ that Barclays don't seem to store as much information ONLINE as other banks. I wonder why this is???

That's what they hope for everyone accepting the 1st offer, i'd push it and see what the 2nd offer is. They don't want to be taking to court as they'll end up paying out more.
    Good luck.

Tell them you are unhappy with that offer, you never know they may ask you an amount you would accept. £800.....it's worked for so many others. Failing that then it's time to send in your 2nd letter giving them 7 days before you start court action.

I've got a claim being handled by Barclays at the moment, they've been sent the LBA.

Having seen the Whistleblower programme last night I thought I'd try my luck negotiating with them over the phone, using the angle that now I was even more likely to win so why don't we save each other the time and expense of going to court and just settle this now.

I was even prepared to concede that £2 was a fair charge and deduct it from each charge claimed.

It took about 10 minutes to get through "due to the high demand for this service", but they wouldn't budge. My claim is being looked at and Barclays say they've got 8 weeks in which to respond.

I stated that my timescale was such that they'd got until the 23rd to reply before I lauch court action, but as a goodwill gesture I would give them a further week.

Hopefully by doing so it will strengthen my case in court that I've tried to act reasonably with them at all stages.

The poor woman sounded up to her eyeballs, she'd seen the programme last night and it seems to be causing Barclays some grief!

So it's not really a progress report, and if anything I've delayed my case by a week, but I feel it was worth a try.

I got my court date through yesterday for 16 April, so thought i would give Barclays a call today to see if they would settle for a lower amount a bit quicker. And guess what?..... they did'nt even whant to know, just told me that i would have to go to court and continue my claim. So i said "that is fine with me; as this is the 4th time i have tried to settle for a lower amount and now i will re-calculate the interest (about £75 extra) and will claim for the £270 of charges added to my since i started the claim back in October" she was a little bit flustered by this but never mind.

Can't do any more now, so just waiting for an offer or my day in court.

  • ok i posted yesh that i had received my statements and was workin out the total, £3450, with an extra £660.80 in interest, if i claim ( i think i will)

Today however ive recieved a letter from barclays saying that they'd like to offer me a settlement of £2650, this letter came outta of the blue, all i'd sent to them was a letter asking for my statements ( in which i forgot to put the £10 charge, lol).

Today after getting my letter, ive sent out a letter back, stating the amount with interest, but said that i will be willing to settle for £3450, hopefull they will not see my ploy and offer me the full bank charges back

    fingers crossed
