Mel78 wrote:Hello! I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it’s too late for me to claim charges made by Barclays Bank.
Barclays charged me several months in a row back in 2002 when I was a poor postgraduate student, and even now it makes me angry. I later close the account because of their behaviour and moved to the Halifax. Having moved house several times since then and had a few clear outs I can’t find any documentation relating to my Barclays account, so I can’t request the statements to start the claim process.
Have I left it too late, or is there a way I could find out my old account number??
It makes me really angry to think of them getting away with it.
Thanks
Using the the link above for address write to the bank giving your name and address (along with any previous addresses if applicable) and also give your date of birth and they should be able to trace your closed/old account.0 -
Hello everyone!!!
I have sent two SAR letters so far - one to Smile and one to Barclays. The Smile one covers an account & credit card (both closed) of mine and the second in my wifes name covers her account & credit card and our joint account. I still have to send Barclays a SAR letter in my own name as I previously held a credit card with them and had late payments on that as well.
I sent the letters first class (2nd Dec) has anyone had a problem obtaining information if the SAR letter is not sent recorded delivery?
I am very impressed with the camaraderie on this site thanks (I have cut £100 off of my monthly outgoings so far!!) I look forward to getting further along in the process so I can give something back!!!0 -
Hi guys I have been following this thread for ages waiting for right time to start my claim and that time has come. Had yet another £30 charge whacked onto my account because I went £26 overdrawn and all because I sent some money to another account and Barclays kept it (£490)in their system for 6 days then put it back into my account, I then had to re-send it all of which delayed the transfer back to my account and resulted in me going OD for 3 hours. I blew my top on the phone to CS girl and asked her to arrange for 6 years of statements on both my accounts to be sent to me. I have set up 2 alliance and leicester accounts as a fall back in case they close account. I'm going for it now as I have had enough of these money grabbing banks.
Wish me luck and I'll keep you all posted on here.0 -
I've moved your post over to the Barclays thread. Keep an eye on this thread to see how others are getting on with their claim and this bank.
Good luck. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

hello....
Ive just recieved a letter from the small claims court telling me that Barclays have filed a defence. Can anyone point me to further disscusions on this board that compare to my situation please.I didnt expect them to go this far.
Ive read through the defence (heavy heavy jargon) and all seems pretty formal, however, in their defence they claim, that my claim goes back beyond six years....but, theyve stalled and stalled with their intial replies to my request, that my claim is now 6 years and 4 months old.(they sent me two letters over a very drwan out period telling me that they were still reveiwing my case!!!)
Do they have a leg to stand on here, or they just trying to make me feel a bit stupid??
thanks....

Me and the missus both bank with Barclays. She gets Child Benefit and Tax Credits paid into her account. On Tuesday I went to the cash point for her and the machine told me the maximum I could withdraw was £50. So I did. Yesterday (Thursday) £30 was taken from her account. I had a look at her online statement and found it was taken because Barclays allowed her to go overdrawn by £5.35. This is as a result of me withdrawing the £50 the day before.A Paid Referral Fee of £30 is charged when we pay an item that results in your account going overdrawn by more than £5* without an agreed limit, or by more than £5* above an agreed limit. In addition, this fee will also be charged if we pay any further items that increase your unauthorised borrowing by £1 or more.
The above is taken from Barclays website. Their cash machine told me that the money was available when clearly it wasn't. As a result they're now £30 better off. I didn't ask them to give me funds which would make her account overdrawn.
Anybody offer any advice???This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -

Matt.
I guess you should have pushed them to keep to your time scale and not allowed them to stall by saying they are still reviewing the case. It doesn't appear to be unusual for the bank to file a defence as you are taking them to court after all so you now have to include in your defence the letters they sent that you feel delayed your case by four months.0 -

Phone them and ask if they will return the charge if this is a first time charge.0 -
Hi, just some advice needed please. i sent my bank, Barclays, a letter looking to reclaim £850 in bank charges from the last 6 years. i gave them 28 days to reply. the first letter i got said that the charges were written in the T&C's, yet they still offered me a 'good will gesture' of £200. i didn't accept, and wrote them another letter giving 14 days to reply. they then sent an offer of £600, which i received yesterday. i am just wondering whether i should accept this offer. i know its £250 less than i should receive but i've got a feeling i shouldn't push my luck. if i decline this and they then decide not to give me anything, i would kick myself because £600 would make a substantial effect to my overdraft at the moment. so basically i would like anyone's advice who has been through this before with similar circumstances. thanks for looking, shanesmummy.0
