  • I became aware that I could claim back my charges after seeing Martin on GMTV. I then followed the process through, and after being offered only half of the £1500 I had been charged I decided to decline and to fight on. I am know wondering if this was the right decision as I am currently in the situation whereby I will be going to court on the 13th December 2006 for a prelimary hearing. What I would like know:-

    1) Is this normal.
    2) Should I get legal guidance.
    3) Through the courts how long will it take.

I would appeciate any guidance you could give me

    Many thanks
  • I sent a letter to Barclays a couple of days ago with a cheque for £10 asking for statments and have had a letter back today returning my cheque and reading through the blag it says I should be recieving my statements soon.

So far so good but this is the easy part isn't it? Be interesting to see what I was charged as my charges took my account to £900 plus o/d within 3 months and then they made me take out a Resolve loan to pay the bloody thing off!
I have been inspired by this site and the stories and advice on here.
Martin Lewis should go into politics and be Chancellor of the Exchequor!!

Yes, its normal that this may proceed to a court date, however what is likely is it will be settled before your court date and so you won't need legal guidance.
  • Folks :-
I'm claiming back £1200 charges from Barclays on behalf of my son. I've been doing this since July last year and have just been given a court date of the end of February, so I need to get cracking regarding compiling the paperwork.

The question I'vegot is Barclays have closed my sons account (we were expecting this and had a parachute account sorted) but the £665 overdraft they've passed to a debt collection agency and added a £25 charge for good measure.

My son does not have the money and at present his expenditure exceeds his income. So any deal with the debt collectors would have to be of the order of £10 or so a month, until the Barclays money comes through.

In the mean time the debt collectors have written back to say they are prepared to offer a significant (up to 25%) reduction if the debt is settled early. I suppose I could pay and then add those costs to my son's slate... Has anyone had any dealing with the debt collectors (Debt Managers Ltd based in Edinburgh?) Are they prepared to knock off 25%?

(Apologies if this is in the wrong forum)

    Thanks

    Kevin

Stockport gerbil, I'm checking on a few things and will post a fuller response when I've done this. BUT i'm pretty sure that debt on a disputed account is uncollectable until the account is resolved.
  • Apologies if there has already been a post to this effect, but I wanted to get an idea of what is considered an acceptable refund.

I have claimed back charges amounting to £915 from Barclays Bank, and following an intial letter they have offered me £470. Can I get an idea from others of you who have been going through this claims process as to whether you think that this is an acceptable amount or whether you would persue it further if you were in my shoes? Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

An acceptable amount would be to get the full figure you are asking for. Nothing less.

I got it from the Woolwich (part of Barclays) and from Capital one

from what I have seen other people post it seems to be that providing your willing to push your bank there should be no reason not to get the full ammount.
  • Hello! I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it’s too late for me to claim charges made by Barclays Bank.

Barclays charged me several months in a row back in 2002 when I was a poor postgraduate student, and even now it makes me angry. I later close the account because of their behaviour and moved to the Halifax. Having moved house several times since then and had a few clear outs I can’t find any documentation relating to my Barclays account, so I can’t request the statements to start the claim process.

Have I left it too late, or is there a way I could find out my old account number??

It makes me really angry to think of them getting away with it.

    Thanks
  • i'm not sure where to send my letter asking for the list of charges to.

    anyone know?
