Barclays Bank (merged)

If it has never happened before and you got paid that day, it might be worth speaking to a personal banker in the branch and trying to get them removed that way, rednick. Lots less hassle and a far quicker resolution. At least if you've sent your letter you can get the ball rolling if they say no.0

My account with Barclays went overdrawn by quite a lot because of the charges and they forced me to take out a Resolve loan to pay it back. Can I still claim charges from the old account? They loaned me £950 at 16.743% pa which means I pay back a total of £1402.20 over 5 years. I wasn't given any choice in the matter but said this was the only way they would accept their money back.
Anybody got any advice?
I will send for my statements from the account they closed tomorrow.
By the way I have an IVA which is now 18 months old. I told Barclays about this but they still insisted that the Resolve account was the only way they would accept the money back.
Sorry for waffling on.We finally did it! Debt free 28/6/10 :T  :T :beer:0 -
Barclays have filed a defence - I have included a £20 charge that is over 6 years old. In my AQ response to the court, I have included a letter to this effect, asking if I should inform Barclays.
No response yet, and AQ is due this Sunday - 3/12 - should I send an updated claim sheet to Barclays, or just let it go to the court stage?0 -
There seems to be alot of panic on here so let's all calm down and breathe
First things first, www.consumeractiongroup.com is a wealth of information that we may not need but is definitely worth looking at.
Secondly, I am at mcol stage and am now claiming back nearly £3000 and still getting hit by charges:mad: It winds me up as, from what I've read, Barclays will close my account when I go after these charges.
Finally, remember people, what the banks are charging is not illegal it is unlawful. There is a huge difference so be very careful if it goes to court to use the right word.
p.s. - All we want is what is ours, it's our timetables we work to, not the banks. Sooner or later, the banks will find a way to stop these charges.0 -

Morning all,
Started this process only a week and a half ago and received a letter and my cheque back from Barclays two days later and then lo and behold got my copy statements through on Friday. Has anyone else had such an "efficient" response? I wasn't expecting anything until just before Christmas...0 -

AND SO SAY ALL OF US!
Derbyshire Lad, I have indeed heard of them being so quick. I reserve judgement on the 'efficient' bit as so many of us have had pages missing.
They also seem to be making offers of settlement above their 'traditional' £1000 ceiling. Maybe they know that the tide is turning...0 -

Thanks silvercharming. To be honest I was a bit paranoid about the speed with which a complete set of statements arrived, but a little bit of praise where it's due. While I'm on and you seem to be clued up on Barclays, do you know how they are reacting to those adding interest at stage 2 of the process???0 -
My Barclays account went overdrawn a couple of years ago and with charges and penalties the amount was soon up to £900 plus. They wouldn't listen to my pleas to pay this amount off at a rate I could afford and made me take out a Reslove loan to pay it off. This on it's own has an APR of 16.34% even though I had an IVA.
Well I've been reading these posts for a couple of week and decided to get back what they have taken in charges. I've posted my first letter asking for statements and enclosed my £10 cheque today.
I'll wait 40 days and see if they come up with soemthing. Am a little bit apprehensive but.......We finally did it! Debt free 28/6/10 :T  :T :beer:0 -
They still cough up when you add interest. Fewer people tend to settle early on - probably because they are generally claiming at the higher end of the scale and the offers can be pretty derisory. But you'll get your full amount if you hold out for it. Keep your nerve!0
