  • On sunday I accidently went £5:80 over drawn and have been charged a £30 pound refferal fee!!

What i do not understand is why they allow me to go overdrawn without an agreed overdraft surely they should not allow me to draw money i dont have!

Anyway.......... I have had all my wages and everything re-directed to a family members bank account for the time being as i no longer want to deal with them, however i have a fraud case outstanding and i am still waiting for payment from them....... would i still get this if i changed? And would be able to reclaim if i was no longer with the bank?
  • Which letter was it marieb? If it was a request for your statements they have 40 days to respond. In other letters in the process I think I'm right in saying that you stipulate the timetable to them, normally giving them 14 days to respond. If that's wrong I'm sure/hope someone more knowledgable will correct me..
  • Go into Barclays & demand it back. If it is the 1st time you have been charged they will give you it back. However I have been in twice in the last 12 months & kicked up a stink & have been refunded, although I did used to work for them!

Which letter have you sent? The DPA (Data Protection Act) Request for charges or the initial approach?

The DPA request they have 40 days to comply. With the initial approach, you send a LBA (Letter Before Action) 14 days after the first one.
  • the one initialally asking for the money
  • Bank statements arrived with a six month chunk missing. I called the call centre to request that they send them. Was told that they would be £5 each. Explained about my Subject Access Request. Was told that this would still be £5 each. Asked whether they really wanted action taken against them for breach of the DPA as well as everything else? Surprisingly enough, they backed down.

Barclays charge £5 per statement request for statements going back over the last 6 years (that's all call centre staff are allowed to do on their system). That charge is per request so you can order as many as you like and it's just 1 £5 fee. Having said that, if you need those statements for the purpose of a possible claim against bank charges, then there is no charge. Just make sure the advisor you speak to knows why you're requesting them and make sure that they type in the instruction "Do not charge".

    HTH someone.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)
  • Hey all,
Just wanted to join the Barclays buddy list. I have sent my first letter, and received the standard reply... hoping to get all my statements through the post, although highlighting all the charges over 6 years will take a while! looks like a few people have had positive outcomes from doing this, so i may as well give it a shot. The advice on this site is priceless... ill re post when im sat at my desk with a highlighter and a wad of statements!
    Thanks
  • Hi,
So far sent 3 first letters out requesting statements (with cheque enclosed)
    HSBC - for my bro
    Natwest - Joint
    Barclays - Partner

Had naff letter from Natwest requesting sort code or branch details and account number, (I had already given them the account number and branch details as I had used the templates from this website in the first letter) delay tactics I think! So sent them another with all details on it the same day I received it!!

Received statements from Barclays today (only sent letter on 16th nov), also sent my cheque back saying this service is provided free (cheers). Now have to sift thru them all and highlight charges, but at a glance they have only given me from nov 2000 to april 2004, may be able to download others from theirwebsite!?!
  • Not sure Big T. i think statements on their website will only go back so far, maybe 6 months... I could be facing the same problem, with missing statements (something about a microfishe) but ill wait for what comes through the post. I think if you call them up and mention breach of DPA (see SilverCharmings post earlier) then they should send the full batch through, at no extra charge.

New to this, but i have just been charged twice for going over the overdraft, never happened before, my wages went in the same day that they charged me, so i'm really fed up. Just printed out my letter, that will be going off today, and wait to see what happens.
    :D
