I am new to all this - very scary
My question is i closed my bank account with the Halifax last year because they would not give me a current account even though i had Direct debits and my wages going in every month. I was with them for about 7 yrs. I opened a current account with RBOS no problem. I want to claim back all the charges i had with my old Halifax account and wondered if this was possable even though it is now closed. I still have all the details of the account ect..
I have made claim to Citicards, Barclaycard, Co-op Bank, Clydesdale Bank and all are closed accounts. I have received replies from them all and none of them have questioned the fact that the accounts are now closed. Not rec'd refunds yet but working on it with fingers crossed! I'd say you can but try!!0 -

Send of the first letter template in Martin's article which asks for all information/statements for your account under the Data Protection Act. Then you can start your claim once you can collate your charges. You'll find the address for this letter in post 1 in the Reclaim Help Thread, link in my signature.0 -
i have a default with Lloyds tsb of around 5000 ( i think around 2k of this are charges) - this has been passed to aktiv kapital, if i claim back these charges could they be deducted from the amount i owe them - or would the money come to me personally?0

Its more than likely that any monies reclaimed will be put towards any debt.0

Received letter from barclaycard offering half of my claim. As my account is closed they have asked for my bank details in order that they can pay me the money.
I intend supplying the bank details but will be advising them I want the full amount or I will proceed to court stage.0 -

Send the first letter requesting your 6 years details and £10 fee (if appropriate, some banks dont charge) and include all your personal details for them to trace your account. Name, address with full postcode, date of birth and date account closed if you remember. Include the name of the local branch you banked at it may help.
Good luck0 -
I am currently in the middle of claiming back the unfair charges that I have received from my bank, but do such regulations cover credit cards as well? Is it possible to claim back unfair charges from credit card companies? Also, i asked my credit card company to send me my statements covering the last year, but they said it would cost £6 per statement ie £72 in total-is that fair and just?0

I spotted someone on this forum the other day looking for J D Williams address now I can't find it . To anyone interested it is Griffin House, Lever St. Manchester. I worked for them last year and though I needed the money I left on principle. In the small print they say that 'this is a 28-day account'. Consequently their niche market (old age pensioners) who don't understand this ploy and pay on the same day every month when they get their pension are constantly racking up late payment charges of £17.50 (as I think I remember-it may be more!). Most don't notice and this becomes a nice little earner for JDW. If they challenge it on the phone they are reminded it is a 28-day account but not openly encouraged to challenge it further. Most then accept it and are told to be careful and pay on the due date in future. If they still stick out then a 'chat' to the supervisor reluctantly ends with the fees being deleted.I couldn't ethically work in such a rip-off atmosphere and left.0

Yes, you can reclaim from Credit Cards
You need to ask for your charges using a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act. There is a maximum charge of £10 for this information. Please see the Step by step article in my signature.0
