hi new to this forum ,just wandered anyone have any dealings with ge money /selfridge card ,my wife has just noticed she is being charged £4PPI WHICH SHE NEVER ASKED FOR ,and has also had numerous £15 admin charges, can she claim them back ? also £20 admin charges from studio catalogue would appeciate any help out there to get her out of this mess
Hi i used to work in retail and i sold store cards on a daily basis. Your wife need to contact the lender of her selfridges card and request proof of signature for her PPI cover. They can't charge you PPI unless you signed for it when you opened you card or if they sent you documentation in the post that you signed and returned to them. Often the sales assistants would say to the customer sign here and here without identifying what the boxes where for and therefore the customer would have signed for a service they did not wish for. This is illegal however many sales assistants would do it because of the pressure from the company to sell cards.

If they can't prove you signed for it or that you were given full information on the charges that it entailed then you can claim it back. However this is a completely seperate issue from bank charges and you will need to do this independently, usually these issues can be dealt with over the phone, although be prepared to put it in writing and goodluck! :)
  • My other half and I have a number of old bank accounts and credit / storecards which are now closed, but which we have historically paid quite a few charges on.

We would like to claim all of these back, but do not have the details of all of them (account no's etc) and are not even sure we can remember them all. Is there a way of tracking down these details? Would they show on a credit report? How far back would a credit report go?

Also, quite a few of the store cards would be with GE Finance - would we need to contact the directly or each individual store?

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Regards

Hi can anybody confirm if you can re-claim charges on a closed account ?
  • When I am claiming for charges on my store and account cards such as Argos, Mint, River island do i send the letter to them or the banks in which they are controlled by?

Am wondering if I can claim against Credit Card providers. Going back 6 years I have loads of £20 late charges levied against me plus payment protection insurance I really didn't need. I still owe money on these cards as I was in financial difficulties 3 years ago. I am paying back through a debt company where all interest has been waived.

Can I claim back laye charges, I realise these are not the same as penalty charges fro issuing a letter via a Bank.

Would be interested to hear from you and very grateful for any advice.

    Thanks

  • You can claim on credit cards for late payment fees and over limit fees, just change the letter to read what charges you are claiming.

However as your account is with a DCA you need to have a read of this thread and be aware they will probably expect any monies claimed to go towards the debt.
  • Hi, just wondered if anyone can advise me on this one. Bank account been closed now for four years but can I still claim charges against them? I know you can claim back six years worth of charges but not sure if you can when account has been closed for so long? Many thanks, Debbie
  • Hello people,
I wonder if anyone can help me.
I had 2 CC's in the past, one with MINT, the other was BARCLAYCARD.
I have since moved home, and have also changed my surname by deed poll due to personal family circumstances.
I do not know the account numbers of my credit card accounts anymore as they were shredded long ago.
So i was thinking if i was to write to them and say Hi, I'm Mr Workman, but I used to be Mr ****, I live at ******** but I used to live at *******,
oh and i don't know my account details, it probably will sound a bit vague to them and will probably tell me to get lost.
Does anyone think this is possible? to obtain details of my account from them, even though I've moved and changed my name?
I estimate I'd be in for about £2000.
Also, BARCLAYCARD kept charging me PPI even though I never ever opted to have it, EVER.
    Help appreciated please.
  • Send the letter asking for your information/statements to the cc companies and give your name (s), any relevant addresses and date of birth and they should be able to trace your accounts.
  • I had a current account with the HALIFAX until last year, and I was constantly being hit with charges, sometimes over £70 a month, unfortunately I have thrown away most of the statements and letters telling me they are going to rob me again and I want my money back, what are the chances of me getting copies of old statements going back six years,I don't bank with them anymore but today I went through their telephone banking system and discovered that I am 8 pence overdrawn with an overdraft facility of £649.92 pence,so I assume I still have an account although I haven't received any statements since April last year.Is there any hope for me??
