  • Hi all,
I've already sent the first letter to Nationwide to start claiming my fiance's charges back. This account was closed in November 2005 by them, will I be able to claim the charges for the last 6 years the account was open or does the 6 years mean 6 years from the date claimed?

Also are Nationwide liable for third party charges? On a number of occasions direct debits were rejected even though there was enough money in the account to cover these. I successfully claimed back the charges Nationwide added for rejecting them shortly after the account was closed ( had I known at the time I could have claimed all the charges back I would have done), and when I asked for the charges that my fiance had had to pay to the finance companies I was told that they were not responsible for third party charges. But surely they are responsible as it was their 'mistake' for rejecting the direct debits in the first place, and as they paid the charges back isn't this admitting it was their fault.

Lastly I sent my letter to Lloyds at the same time as Nationwide to the Data Protection address both by recorded delivery 12/02/07. The Nationwide letter was received 13/02/07 (and the cheque has been cashed), but the letter to Lloyds still hasn't been delivered. The Royal Mail website wont acknowledge its lost in the post until after 15 working days, so does anybody know of another address to which I can send the same letter if this turns out to be the wrong one (read on one of the other posts that someone was told this address was incorrect anyway).

Sorry this has been so long winded.
    Thanks
    Louise

Did anyone see watchdog? Is it worth going through the financial ombudsman first as they had pointed out on tuesday?
    Thanks

I amended the request for statements letter for my credit cards to read ALL charges.....without listing individual types of charge. Covers them all, so none missed. This is ok....isnt it?
  • Hiya,

I have tried to search for this but can't find anything so here goes...

I was just trying to find out whether I could claim back bank charges on closed down bank accounts. I had an account at Lloyds TSB that charged me on a few occasions for returned D/D's and then they closed down my a/c. Please can you let me know if this is possible or is it tough because they closed down my a/c already?

  • I changed my bank account last summer, but have paid fees that would be eligible for reclaiming - can I go through this process for an account that is now closed?
    Thanks, Izzy

If it's a late payment charge then you should be able to claim it back.
  • Why is it that you can just reclaim your charges from the banks, why not credit card firms and hp companies?

a few years ago i lost a job I wrote them a letters begging them to stop charging me as I am doing my best to repay my debts but my bank was bouncing standing orders even if the shortfall was just a few pounds then I was being charged by my credit cards companies and my car HP and then a week later the direct debit was represented and again I was being charged, the total was £100 per direct debit per month, something like £400 per month
  • hi all im am interested in claiming my charges back but i am worried about my loan and credit card with the same bank if they close my account will they close these as well or just my current account please give me some advise
    thanks
