Thanks Iffy. I'll give it a go soon. Tried to thank you but the thanks button disappeared when I clicked it!
Tesco want £7.97 which is £5 credit and £2.97 for the SIM for anyone transferring from EM.
What a pain. Stelios should have been nicer to the germans :)
Thanks for the intl SIM Info; might try that if I have lots of calls to make. Trouble is that I like to keep my own number or I get confused and OH goes ballistic :)
  • And some reviews about Fresh Mobile:

Perhaps it is the likes of yourself who contributed to the demise of Easymobile to the detriment of those of us who happily used the service as it was intended. On their behalf, Thanks a lot!

pigeonpie - do you make many calls? Do you need to send these sms messages by phone, or could you manage sending them via the internet (using an internet sms company) ?

Thanks Iffy, I usually text France from my UK mobile at least once a week as my french one's credit expires :( . Have you got the names of any internet based sms companies that are good and you don't get hit with spam etc? But I do need to be able to text and phone France and vice versa.

I've looked at the intl and roaming tariffs: Fresh are no good (they want you to buy their intl SIM), T Mobile a complete rip off (£1 per intl call from UK) and the best option AFAIK is Tesco Mobile. They also have an option on their Std tariff for 3 nos @half price. Only downside is I see they piggyback on O2 which has a dodgy signal sometimes where I live.
Does anyone know if they are ok and how I get a free or cheap SIM? I would be transferring to them (if MS experts tell me they are the cheapest & work fine) but don't suppose they would chuck a free SIM at me? And I would def want to keep my number.
Other downside: I never shop at Tesco as there isn't one nr here. Can you top up a Tesco SIM using bank ATMs or a text message or is it online just like EM?

As far as making cheaper intl calls is concerned Virgin Payg allows you to call Intl Gateway Numbers

    0845 10p a minute
    0844/0870/0871 15p a minute

Plus you get free voicemail and the min call charge is 5p.

Also you can get 15p a min x-net mobiles calls by using 0844/0871 gateway numbers

I think the Paypal text service is just a message you send to Paypal to pay someone else from your Paypal account. Not your phone account if that's what you meant.
What I meant was it will not work with an easyMobile phone, & wanted to confirm if this was true or not. G

    Also, from the FAQs:
Does PayPal Mobile work with my mobile operator?

Most, but not all, mobile operators have set up their network to support PayPal Mobile. PayPal is working with mobile operators to make this service available to all mobile users. Check to see if your operator is supported.
  • It is scary how easily pay as you go credits and prepaid cards can just be 'lost'. I see mobiles as a necessary evil, and the companies as ....

    easyMobile closure and Quidco
    November 14th, 2006
As most of you are probably aware easyMobile is closing down their UK operations. Anyone on easyMobile will find their service ended on December 13th and their contract expire on December 20th.

We’ve had a few emails from worried members regarding their easyMobile Quidco earnings. We have not had official notice on this but from past experience (with similar situations) we expect to be paid for any outstanding tracked earnings. We are less certain about enquiries on missing transactions as these involve much more of a process which easyMobile may not be able to go through at this point. When we receive confirmation on any of these issues we will let you know in this thread.

If you don’t know what to do with your soon to be worthless easyMobile minutes (unless you apply for credit as per their site) why not send text donations to charities who feature that type of donation. If anyone knows of a charity with this form of donation please post it in the comments to share with other members.
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

I was with easymobile because of their 5p text message rate, as I am deaf and do not make any voice calls. I happily paid 75p charge on ocassion which worked out better than the various packages other companies offer which include discounted calls.

I noticed with Fresh, although they are 3p, it does mention that if you do not make any calls in 90 days your account will be closed. Does that apply even if I made 100 text messages in 90 days but no calls? I also need to be able to check my balance by text as well as online, which I could do with easymobile.

Have looked at other companies and am struggling a little with their info. Any ideas?

Easy Mobile can't send the number to another provider. The other provider has to request it from Easy Mobile and they do that with the port code.

I requested the pack yesterday evening and i my phone has been working today.

I think they mean your account will be closed when your number has been moved to Fresh and no longer an Easy Mobile number.
Even if you opt for fresh deal, it does not mean you are tied to them.I took up the offer yesterday but saw sense and went to virgin. They accepted the pac which was meant for fresh.Im still getting fresh sim with free credit through the post as well!......Neil
