  • Hope you are ready for them but I hope even more there will be a last minute settlement for you.
  • Hi all,

I am writing to testify of some good news. I received £750 from my bank (LloydsTSB) in December relating to the last 4 years up until August 2006, and that's only I after I had sent the 2nd letter demanding my money back, and they offered it to me as a gesture of good will, but I was expecting £877 in total.

However, there is one problem. Over the last 3 months (Nov '06-Jan '07) the bank have again been charging me in fees for at least £130+ within each month totalling approx £390 and therefore almost cancelling the amount I initially received. Does anyone know if I can claim these amounts back even after I have already received the £750?

I look forward to someone's reply soon...

    Thanks,
    Aris

P.S. For anyone who is chasing their payments from the bank, may I encourage you to pursue it 'til the end. You are most likely to receive all that you ask for...
  • You can make a second claim but most likely they will then close your account so best make sure you have another current account set up.

As EdinburghLass says, yes, but the bank are more likely to close your account.

Also I'd add, you need to make sure you didn't sign anything when you received the last refund to say you wouldn't claim any further charges.

Hi - I'm going to sound so stupid, but I know I probably paid about £100 in bank charges when I had a student account with Lloyds TSB. I borrowed from a family member to pay off my overdraft and closed my account. Since then (this is about four years ago) I have paid the money owing to my family member back in full and much has happened since then, including buying a house. I really want to claim back these charges, but I don't have spare £10 or £100 lying around to request my bank statements and to pay the claims court if Lloyds go that far (which, from reading these posts, they always seem to).

Is it guaranteed that the fees will be paid back to me?? They were just incurred when I went over my overdraft limit.

Sounding like a wet blanket I know, but always get paranoid with stuff like this in that: it's working for everyone else, but will I be the one that fails??

Any advice or reassurance greatly welcome...

  • There is no guarantee but a pretty good chance you will get your charges back. They may not charge you the £10 for your statements but as they are entitled to charge this you have to send it when asking for your back statement/information. As you closed the account 4 years ago you will only be able to claim back approximately 2 years, the 6 years is 6 years from the time you send the first request.

Thanks Edinburghlass - I think what I might do is just make the initial enquiry as to how much exactly I paid in bank charges (I think my account was only open for one year anyway) and go from there. If it's not much maybe it's just not worth the risk, but I can certainly remember times when I paid several charges on the same day because of transactions or even because paying one bank charge from a couple of weeks before had pushed me over the limit again and therefore meant I incurred another charge.

Will play it by ear...nothing ventured nothing gained I suppose!
  • Is it normal for Lloyds to try and contact you by phone?
They would have received my 7 day warning (2nd letter) on Wednesday and when I got home from school run the same day had a answer phone message from them asking to call regarding a personal business matter.
There woul dbe no other reason for them to call as my account is being run nicely and I have no reviews due.
Should I stick to doing everything my mail so I have written copies and proof of everything? Or is it worth ringning them back to see what they say?
  • Stick to writing.
  • I had been telling my friend all about reclaiming bank charges and she was dithering over doing it, the next day i met her and she said she had a phonecall from LLoyds saying they were contacting all customers who had charges applied to their account in the last month with a veiw to waiving them !!! Never mind one month - tell him you want six years back !! lol
