Include both account numbers in your letter, and claim for both accounts at the same time.

If you don't need any statements from the bank (because you found enough info online). Don't worry about the first letter asking for info. Move straight on to reclaiming the charges.

Since I read about the bank charges thing I have helped my friend to look at his past bank charges with both Capital One and Lloyds TSB. With Lloyds the situation is as follows: he had both a personal and a business account with Lloyds, and on the business account, judging from all the statements and letters he got to that effect, they have charged him £320 in "Fees for Unpaid Cheque", "Fees for Unpaid Items" and "Charges as Advised", whatever the latter means. I assume it's all more or less the same thing, as it's always £27.50 (in the beginning) and £30 every time later on.

Now, the weird part is that, although there are countless "returned DD's" on the statements of his personal account, I cannot find any fees charged for the privilege of doing so. Can that be right? Why would they charge his business account every time, but not his personal one? I am more than puzzled but can of course not get any charges back which aren't shown. Am I missing something here, does it make sense to send the letter asking for all the charges details and spend £10 on it? His statements are awash with "Returned DD" posts, and in the end they closed his account down because of that, and they expect me to believe they didn't charge him because of it? What do you think happened here? Don't tell me they were nice for once!

  • hi,

i'm keen on getting my money back from Lloyds TSB, (est' 2,300) i've an overdraft of 2,100, which i intend on paying off with the claim. however i also hold a loan with them (12,000) plus i've my morgage with C&G via Lloyds TSB.

fisrt does lloyds TSB close bank account if claimed on?

anyone know if they'd make me pay up on the 12,000 loan

and does anyone know if they'd try anything with the morgage (or is that not possible)?

i seriously hope someone could help me out on the above, 'cos as you can imagine it'll help me decide on going thru with it or not!!

    in hope, budget bill :)
  • All banks can and some do close accounts and/or call in an overdraft but your loan and mortgage are different agreements.
  • many thx for your reply Edin', so i can be assured they would not be able to try it on regarding my loan & mortgage :)

    thx again! - budget bill
  • Second letter time!!
Received the Lloyds standard response letter at the end of last week as it seems everyone else has so time to move things on a bit!
All set and ready to post.
One thing I have been reading about, the court fees. I should have the money to pay for the fees in 7 days when needed due to my olympic challenge and general MSEing but as a single mum on income support it looks as though I'm entitled to fee exclusion. Will this make any difference to the way I proceed? Being as you get the court fees back with the claim is it worth me bothering with it if I have the money to pay for it or will it just be unneccessary faffing?!!
Going by previous posts I'm expecting to pay about £100 ish is that right? I'll be using the money claim site as it seems to be the easiest option and doesn't involve dragging me and the kids to the court and paying for parking etc etc!!!! Oh my claim is for £1246.
    Thanks guys.
  • The main difference in claiming exemption would in fact involve you having to go to the local court so yes, doing it online is easier is you can afford the £120 upfront.
  • Thanks for such a quick, short and to the point response!! Just what I needed! Shame my post wasn't quite so streamlined!!!!
  • so i can be assured they would not be able to try it on regarding my loan & mortgage
No, not if the mortgage and the loan account are well kept and paid up to date.
  • Hi All,

PLease can you help me. I sent off to reclaim my bank charges and sent the 14 day response letter and didn't get any correspondence from LLoyds TSB charges totalled £2660 without interest so I then send them the second letter 7 days to respond this was on 11.01.07 but I still haven't had anything. Is it 7 working days or including the weekend? Has this happened to anyone before? As I am expecting a snotty letter but have recieved nothing. I am thinking of waiting until the end of the month before registering at court. Should I have recieved something from Lloyds TSB before now?

    Thanks
