I had an account with the TSB and I closed it around 1998.
To cut a long story short, as it took me a week to try and find out where I should phone getting passed back and forth because I didnt have a current account with them, I phoned them to request my statments, luckly I had my account number.
But they told me they only keep records of accounts for 6 yrs and as it was almost 10 yrs since I closed my account theres nothing they can do.
Are they getting wise to folk wanting their statments..? Or is this correct...can someone let me know what I can do.

    thanks.

As far as i know you can only claim back bank charges for the last 6 years, I only know of 1 person on here that has managed to claim back for the last 10 years but she already had her statements.

    Thanks....

I know you can claim only 6 yrs worth of statments (I am in the process of doing this with Halifax) and I am trying to do that for the last 6 yrs that my TSB account was open, up until 1998. They are saying because I had my account over 10 yrs ago they cant bring up my details for that far back...
  • I am on my third template letter claiming back £160 worth of overdraft charges, the next step is taking them to court which i am a little wary of doing as i am a student.

However, after writing my first letter in Feb and not receiving any form of response i handed my second letter directly into my branch. I made a visit today to check my complaint was being processed, as they have 7 days left before i file my claim. I spoke to the help desk who had no record of logging my complaint but said it had most likely been sent to head office to be dealt with. I said this was not good enough and i wish to check that my complaint was being dealt with, when the woman went to find the number to call the relevant department she discovered that head office have actually DELETED the number from their systems so customers have no way in following up their claims!!

This is disgusting and seems i can't actually speak to anyone regarding this situation. I just wondered if anyone had any advice as to what to do next? Or have been in a similar situation?

I think the guideline is you can claim back 6 years from now. so from april 2001-April 2007. Anything before April 2001 and it doesnt fall into the Data Protection Act and therefore the banks do not have to provide that information.
There is probably more information on this in the help thread.

    Sorry i cant help more

Lloyd's have got till the 15th April to send my sons statements. What if they dont,I cant put the pay up or else letter in until I find out how much they owe him. Also can someone point me in the right direction foe claiming from store cards as River Island owe him some as well.Cant claim right now as he still owes them £400 and cant afford it if they demand all the money back in one hit.But when we have got it down a bit I'd like to have a go at them next.

You don't really need to speak to anyone. You can do your talking through the court.

Can anyone advise me please!!!! I have sent off the first template letter to claim bank charges back on behalf of my son from Lloyds TSB they have sent me back just a summary of some charges and have taken my £10 to do so !! I feel what they have sent is just a drop in the Ocean of what they owe him back for unlawful charges - how do I get hold of his full statements going back the 6 years and will I have to pay again??? Can anyone suggest what I do next - I so want to help him get his money back and feel they are stalling the process - any advice welcome please!!!!!

They should have sent you all the statements for the last six years if that is what you asked for. Write back - reminding them that you have already paid the £10 - and ask for all his statements again. I would say ' I am again requesting the statements for THE LAST SIX YEARS' so they can be in no doubt what you are asking for. Also remind them that they HAVE to comply with your request. It sounds like yet another stalling tactic. I am battling with Lloyds at the moment on two accounts for my DH. As encouragement for you -I succeeded in getting back money for my son. He got an offer from Nat West for his unfair charges yesterday. The claim was for £384.66 and they offered him £356.00 which he has accepted. Keep going with this one - it is your son's money, not the bank's!
    GOOD LUCK!

    Hi, can anyone help.
First two letters requesting our charges back for 2 seperate accounts on 24th march.(Lloyds TSB). Letter was as per template and included bank account numbers. Received following , today, April 3rd:

Sorry you have a complaint blah blah, unfortunately we are unable to trace your account with the details you have provided. Please return a copy of your bank statement or full sort code and account number or details of your previous address( we have moved).

Is this a delay tactic? The L.b.a is due to go monday. What should i do? Like so many this money means alot to us(3000) over two accounts, any help from anyone we`d be very grateful
