hum ... i'm a muppet :D i was just thinking somebody told me their baby of 6 months likes to walk outside, with parents holding both hands. mine didn't crawl or walk at 6 months so had no need for shoes, either indoor or outdoor but i bought the daisy roots when he was nearly 9 months and didn't buy proper outdoor shoes until he could walk properly.

but i think i'm in the minority. at baby groups, singing sessions etc. we go to more than half of the non-walking babies are wearing shoes - mostly nike trainers.

DS is 11 months now and is just about putting one foot in front of the other whilst clinging on to his walker for dear life!! He's been standing for ages though so he had his first pair of "shoes" from Clarks about two weeks ago, but he hardly ever wears them, only if we go out and its cold.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I always thought (and perhaps it is just an old wives tale) that it was better for children's feet if they didn't wear any shoes until they were walking. My son won soft shoes at his christening when he was 4 months old but other than that he only wore socks until he started walking at 10 1/2 months.
Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.

magazines, parenting books etc. will all say shoes aren't needed yes, i bought the soft leather ones just for occasional times. i kept them in the pram and only put them on just before he stood on the ground. when he was crawling but not walking he wanted to crawl everywhere and always wanted to get out of the pram to explore, his knees would bleed on the surface of the park so he needed to stand up really, and be 'walked' about.

he's got a high instep and is a H fitting so i'm glad i didn't force his baby feet into anything that wasn't properly fitted (the leather slippers are soft ones).

sorry if this sounds like we're bashing the poster buying the trainers. i wouldn't buy them at all but some of the comments are just about you buying 4 pairs instead of one lol!

As I said re: the baby trainer obsessed poster, each to their own, but I'm wondering what someone with those values is doing on a "money saving" website?

  • You are buying a boy a doll and a pushchair???

I think he'd much prefer some lego and a toy car... maybe some plastic BOY toys for the bath?

My 3 year old son wants a doll and pushchair. He also likes cars.

Why arent dolls "boys toys"? Or do the boys not grow up and become fathers anymore

looking for places to buy them cheap, or to save money on other outgoings to leave more left over for what she really likes i suppose. there's a lot of chav bashing on here, perhaps there are other members with designer trainer fetishes but the easter egg headband thread scared them off posting :D

we discussed dolls for boys a few months ago, i remember it was when roo wanted a doll, think it was around 6 months ago when he was 9 or 10 months old.

i thought about getting him a pushchair, he likes them at baby groups. but today he preferred the shopping trolley and the trolley with building blocks, so i think he just wanted the pushchair for something to push. he never plays with his doll nowadays, he's more interested in animals. if he wants a pram when he's 3 he can have one.

he sees men who push prams, change nappies and help with feeding. i'm the one at home during the day while my husband works so he sees me do more childcare than his father but there are a few men at toddler groups etc. on their days off and when his father is around they play together, read books, have baths, go for walks etc. and my child probably does not see childcare as purely a female role at all.

  • I never thought I spent too much on my 3 kids (14ds 12dd 8dd) until I read this thread!
Now I realise that perhaps the OH's sisters were correct.

This year is a rather typical year, with about £300-400 spent on each of them. :o
Now it's not that they're spoilt brats - far from it, in fact.
Most of the year, the words 'no' are used a fair bit.
It's just at Christmas I've always had a policy of if I could afford it, they got it.
In return, I've got 2 well-behaved daughters and a typical teenage son.

On top of that, I'm donating £100 worth of gifts to the local childrens ward, which I guess is an attempt to ease my guilt!
Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.
