...and if anyone is wondering what to take with to their booking in appointment, I can recommend (a) a book to read while you wait and (b) a pen so you can fill in the pile of notes they give you! I had to borrow someone elses while they found a pile to put out for everyone else...

Yes Rups, your midwife books/refers your scan.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

    Not necessarily...

With the South London Hospital Trust I got two separate letters - one from Beckenham Beacon for my MW appointment, one from Kings for my scan.

With Croydon, I got a call from the antenatal office to see the MW and when I saw her, she told me to book it myself at reception on the Monday when they reopened. BUT... I was referred quite late on (I think I was about 9 weeks before the referral even went over) as I wasn't happy with South London, so I don't know how Croydon do it as I was sort of rushed through - they may just send out two letters.

You could call the antenatal reception Rups? No harm in asking :)

Oh actually your right, my midwife gave me a phone number to ring and I had to wait a few hours for them to receive the referral then I could book my scan. I've had a few problems with midwifes, think I've blocked the first trimester out x

i spoke to the antenatal dep in mayday as they hadnt received my notification so had to ring the stupid GPs to ask for it to be faxed again. i rang them up a little while ago, and they said they have got it now, and i have a bit of time, but i will hear from them very soon regarding the midwife appointment. it took me a while to get through. :) maybe once i get a letter or phonecall (as they said thats possible too), i can ask about the scan. i did say i was 8 weeks already. so lets hope they rush. i must say they are quick to get hold off at the antenatal place. Its the EPU that never answer their phone. Thanks sarara you gave me the faith in that hospital and they arent too bad at all.

In my case, yes, the midwife booked it - but again as I've said it's a hospital so it's an 'all in one' shop really - brand new building too :)
I was worried as my GP also took his sweet time sending the referral (had to chase up the GP and antenatal unit as well...); and I didn't have my midwife appointment until 10 weeks so thought my 12 week scan would be delayed, but it wasn't! Yes, scan is tomorrow...

oh wow in a way that worked out well so straight after your MW appointment you got your scan (you know what i mean by straight after that, and not waiting for another few weeks). ah i hope all goes well for you tomorrow. hugs. :) so exciting!

It works a little differently in Northern Ireland. Here we get our booking in and first scan at the same appointment, between 10 and 12 weeks. You get your scan first, as I suppose it means if there is a MMC, there isn't any point in putting someone through the whole booking in process. they ask you to allow 1.5 hours. I was done in one hour in total.

Still a little nauseous. It comes in waves through the day, but isn't stopping me eating. I haven't told my boss yet. I wanted to wait until I had my scan (was on Friday), but he's been so busy and stressed out, I don't want to land this on him just yet. I might wait until next week. I've told my friends and family, so I just hope it doesn't get back to anyone I work with.

CL that sounds right though and very practical in terms of meeting the MW after as what would be the point?I met mine last time in some remote child centre and spent ages with her, she took blood samples and then a few weeks after i had a MMC. it was a waste of time. maybe that should be suggested around here too.

i suppose you could tell your boss next week or whenever you are ready. want to reach that stage soon. am soooo impatient. i guess me feeling nauseous still is still a good sign no? :p
