    Hi, I have a question:

Is it possible to build up fitness during pregnancy (in particular 1st trimester?) I usually train high intensity 2-3x week but have done less for the last 2 months. I have just gone 5 weeks so no more high intensity training, but I am thinking of joining a gym to do spinning classes, swimming, maybe some circuits etc to try to get as fit as possible early on in the pregnancy.

In addition to fitness, I am hoping to avoid too much weight gain (I am overweight, with a BMI of 27.6)

    Any experiences on this?

I expect it won't take many months until I need to change to gentler exercise like yoga, aqua fit classes and swimming, and to just try to maintain the fitness level I have, but right now I'd like to try to get as fit as I can before it is too late!

I will ask my GP/midwife also but have not had an appointment yet :-)

hi gigglepig, it also varies person by person. personal trainers etc will recommend it like i was, and then when i asked the GP, i was told to steer away from physical exercise esp intense exercise in the 1st trimester. It could be because i miscarried. I was the same. went to teh gym all the time, did body pump, zumba, and even kung fu. i have had to give it all up because i am too scared now. It could be silly but the GPs say its important not to get the body temperature too high esp when the 1st trimester is the most sensitive one.

hope this helps. i have been recommended to cycle, walk loads and also swim. The doc said maybe i can start smething more in the second trimester. no zumba or running for me at the mo. and i have gained weight now but will have to lose it and deal with it later. lol

Hi, I am now 5 weeks. Getting anxious as 5+3 is when i had mc. But trying to stay positive. What isn't helping is that I am getting increasing period type pains. Especially of in the night in bed. They were quite strong on a couple of occasions last night. I wasn't doubled up in pain but it wasn't pleasant. They pass after a few seconds. But I have had more milder pain throughout the day on and off. I am hoping this is just normal stretching. How frequently did everyone else experience this? Does it increase or decrease at any point generally?

My 6 week scan is booked for 29th May.

Hi Candlewax, at one point near the beginning I was being woken up fairly regularly in pain. Like strong period pains, it really worried me but everything so far is fine and i am now 22 weeks.

The general consensus is if your are not doubling up in pain and there isn't any blood then try not to worry. Obviously you are the only one who knows how painful it is, if you are worried call your midwife or the epu for assurance.

I just had my booking in app at 12+6 :). The midwife was lovely and they support a continouity of care meaning that she will see me at every appointment and will be at the birth too (hopefully). I am having consultant led care because of liver problems (genetic) and need to have a liver scan on the 6th June. She also said there was protein in my urine? Anyone knows what that means? I don't think there is any infection going on but than I'm not a dr.

Not sure who asked but I have more discharge as well down below, pantyliners all the way!

And at 5 weeks I had really bad period pains, I thought I was going to miscarry, it lasted about 7 weeks than they disappeared. Hope that helps.

Kitten and Kavics thank you for replying. It helps to know it is not too unusually and may even disappear in a few weeks! Thanks x

morning all.. having problems connecting to the internet as working from home today. :)

candlewax, i was at the same stage when i had my miscarriage so when i came to the 5 weeks plus mark, i was scared and posted like mad here. lol. i tried my best to stay calm. its hard i know but try and get busy. i am doing that now and find the days passing by. phew.. i have the pains too. sometimes i ignore them as i put it down to normal and uterus stretching etc. like everyone has said, its when you get bleeding and pain you know you cant cope with then you go to the epu. i constantly had a pain on my right hand side which is slightly better now. and nowadyas i tend to feel so bloated and full like i have eaten loads. saying that i am so hungry nowadays as well.

made an appointment to see the gp today at 1030 just to make sure all is ok down there. :0) better to check than not right? i know this is bad but everyday i check for the MW appointment letter. nothing yet. i will be 8 weeks tomorrow. wow. i hope all is going inside me. :)
