  • Hi Ladies,

Not sure about you but i definitely think i'm having a cheeky monkey.. i eat at least 3 bananas a day so I must be! :)

Re: bleeding... I had it twice now and no body seems to concerned except me (as i'm neurotic) and I had an early scan and all seemed ok so I think in the first trimester you just have to wait it out and see :( p.s after BDing i usually bleed a bit and the sonographer told me off for being too rough lol apparently they can tell...*hopes ground will open up*

Does anyone know what the guidelines are on eating nuts during pregnancy now? I know that it used to not be advised but it's not in the "things you shouldn't eat" list.

    Morning ladies :)
hope everyone had a good night and isn't feeling too sicky today. I'm having a bad day so far, can't keep anything down apart from squash, but I'm starving as threw up all my dinner last night :(. Called in sick again :o May do some work from home this afternoon if I feel up to it, but I'm really not up to reading scientific papers at the moment so not sure I'll get very far.

AbiS how are you this morning? hope you're feeling a bit better?

I have IBS too. It's very annoying and can get very painful.:(

I've told my two close friends and DH's parents and sister.

DH's aunt and uncle are coming down in May and I'll be 10 weeks then, so we're going to tell them as they rarely come down so it will be nice to tell them in person.

i think nuts are allowed now.. i read on the babynet website that previously it wasnt and now it is and there were comments from mum saying they had nuts and their babies were healthy.. its so weird when there are so many restrictions..

Embs,i love yorkshire tea. they have that at work and i have two in my big mug and enjoy a strong cuppa. i am into decaff coffee which is nice.. i was arguing with a guy at work the other day that chocolate contained caffeine and he didnt agree. he even looked it up!

Peanuts are now advised as safe provided there's no evidence of allergy in your family.

All other nuts have always been OK.

i wanted to tell my mum and my DH's parents, but i have been banned esp as he is worried how i was last time! i know its too early yet but still telling someone close in family helps i think just incase the hubby/partner can't deal with it... hmmm will try and convince him.:p

As far as food is concerned, you can really be as strict or not as you want. There are a few things which are genuinely bad for the developing embryo, and some which are just because of the risk factor involved, so:

    Toxic
Predatory fish (tuna, shark, swordfish) - high levels of mercury
Pate/liver or other liver products - high levels of Vitamin A
Alcohol - can cause foetal alcohol syndrome

Everything else is just considered to be 'a risk' - it's not that eating it WILL cause any problems, it's just that if you get food poisoning from it, it could cause problems. You need to consider the risk. Pregnant women are told not to eat lots of things because of the risk of listeria, but listeria is incredibly rare, AND the last major outbreak was in the US and because of contaminated melons. At no point have pregnant women been told to avoid fruit and veg but they have been and are sources of listeria (and toxoplasmosis) infection.

Also, dippy eggs are fine as long as you get your eggs from the supermarket - all hens producing eggs for commercial use in this country are innoculated against salmonella.

This is quite a good article on the subject: http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2007/may/29/health.medicineandhealth?cat=society&type=article

Hope that helps - sorry, this is a bit of a hobby horse of mine, it drives me bonkers that educated woman can't be given the right information to make informed decisions, you have to hunt for it.
