I have read that non-liver pate is ok if it's the vacuum-packed type as that reduces the risk of listeria unlike freshly made/deli ones but don't quote me on that. Like you guys have already said there is so much conflicting information out there and it's so hard for pregnant women to make an informed choice. I read an article that was saying it's gotten so bad now that the only options women are left with after all the things they scare you off are the processed foods we are normally told to avoid!

Liver contains a lot of Vit A, too much of which is bad for the baby (would feature on your toxic list).
Re. pate, it's twofold. Not only does it contain Vit A (if made with liver) but it can also be a source of listeria. This applies to any type of pate, and not just those made with liver.
Does feature on the toxic list
The listeria issue is one which individual people would have to assess themselves. I personally feel that it's overblown considering the other, more likely risks (exposure to various infectious childhood diseases for example), and if I fancy something I'm going to buy it from the appropriate place and eat it - I take reasonable steps to avoid food poisoning anyway, so I don't think that my diet should change that much in pregnancy. Salad and salad vegetables are a huge source of food poisoning and noone is suggesting that I stop eating those, so why would I stop eating properly cooked seafood, or a rare steak from a reputable restaurant?
But because I can't find at what point Vitamin A exposure becomes toxic, I'm not eating any liver - it's not worth it.0 -

And I eat loads of Waitrose's tuna 'pate' because, as far as I'm aware, it's just tuna, mayo, bit of cream and some lemon juice. How that can be at increased risk of listeria is beyond me"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I had a bit the other day. Don't you get Vit A in carrots?

Things like salmonella won't directly affect the baby though. The risk comes from you being unwell, e.g. dehydration, death etc."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
It just goes to show how much conflicting/confusing advice is out there doesn't it?
We're all clued up, we clearly take our pregnancies very seriously and research stuff to make sure we're doing the best for ourselves and our babies.

Try not to worry about getting exactly two litres. Whilst you will need more water during pregnancy, we have a great way of alerting ourselves to the fact that we're a bit dehydrated... we get thirsty!
A third of our water requirements typically come from food, plus the rest doesn't have to come from water. It can be any fluid (although obviously sugary drinks have other problems associated with them, and too much tea and coffee isn't advised in pregnancy anyway).
If you don't feel thirsty, your wee is quite pale (should be straw coloured although it will be darker in the morning), then you're getting enough fluids."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
yes true..when i dont have enough water anyway i start feeling thirsty.
