I don't think it's fair that I actually started to crave brie once I became pregnant!

I did finally find a pasteurised one though. Nmom nmom. :D

Re. liver and pate, there are two things going on:

Liver contains a lot of Vit A, too much of which is bad for the baby (would feature on your toxic list).

Re. pate, it's twofold. Not only does it contain Vit A (if made with liver) but it can also be a source of listeria. This applies to any type of pate, and not just those made with liver.

I found a pasteurised Brie and ate it, it was lovely. It was only later I was informed that it isn't the no-pasteurisation which is the worry but the white mould on the top which can cause listeria.

I pretended I was French :D after I found out and have avoided since.

I really miss Pate, was told that even vegetarian pate should be avoided. It used to be our go to meal on a Sunday afternoon. French stick, pate and brie. yum!

I had it almost daily in the 6 weeks I wasn't pregnant over the last year or so.
And I eat loads of Waitrose's tuna 'pate' because, as far as I'm aware, it's just tuna, mayo, bit of cream and some lemon juice. How that can be at increased risk of listeria is beyond me :D

It isn't a risk of listeria but the build up of mercury in Tuna. To add to the confusion it is recommended to eat it for all the goodness but no more than two servings (small cans) a week.

I am a strong believer that as long as you eat healthily then don't worry about all the potential risks.

No, I appreciate that tuna is 'eat with caution' because of the mercury, but I'm talking about the advice about pate which is 'don't eat pate, whatever that pate is made from'. It could be made from mushrooms and still be on the banned list. My example was a bit of a confusing one. I could have said 'Waitrose's mushroom pate' (apart from the fact that I don't eat it!).

I think we should just all starve for the next 7 months or so :D

I shall contemplate while I drink my cup of tea with the caffeine included.

No rups, mushroom pate :) an example of the stupid things we aren't allowed but there doesn't seem to be a good reason behind it.
