Jeez, I've eaten loads of salami/pepperoni/parma ham etc. I didn't know you couldn't!

I wouldn't worry too much, this page on babycentre says its best not to eat (because of our old friends listeria and toxoplasmosis) but the last paragraph is reassuringly sensible in its advice "Be assured that if you have eaten cured meats, there's only a very small chance you'll get listeriosis or toxoplasmosis. Listeriosis is very rare. It affects just one pregnancy in every 25,000. Toxoplasmosis affects one in 500 pregnancies each year. The risks to you and your baby are very low. "

There are lots of colds going around Rups. And pregnancy messes up your immune system a lot; I've had a cold, a viral infection and a sinus infection requiring antibiotics in the last 6 weeks!

If you've ever had cats, or done any gardening, you've probably been exposed to toxoplasmosis. I'm using it as a good excuse not to clean out the litter tray, but given that I've had cats since I was 9 and have dealt with more than my share of kitten-accidents, and was encouraged to play outside whenever it wasn't raining, I've almost certainly had it.

I think I knew about salami and parma ham. I'm not sure. I ate an entire packet of parma ham last weekend though without even blinking and I'm absolutely fine, so clearly I'm not that fussed!

To be honest, at the moment anything I can bear to eat gets eaten - I've become very picky about food and I have to eat every two hours or I feel queasy.

It's fine Rups, we are all in the same boat, trying to be good.

I got food poisoning a few weeks ago and panicked thought I had Listeria due to my mothers cooking, after looking into it. Even if you do get Listeria it isn't dangerous it has to get into the blood which is even rarer.

Toxoplasmosis is rare in this country, more likely to get it in other European countries. And as Sa-ra-ra says if you have a cat or spend time in the garden you are more likely to have had it and therefore me immune.

Normal food poisoning is only a risk due to dehydration etc, but best to contact midwives to confirm etc.

Lots of scaremongering which just doesn't help with the stress.

That doesn't sound too bad ;) maybe throw in some crisps for a savoury aspect and don't forget chocolate too..... That's a balanced diet, right ;)
