are you sure it was babies and not placenta or yours, 8 weeks seems so early

My midwife told me it cant be picked up until after 12-14 weeks so its not done until the 16 week check up - was she telling me porkies ::shocked::shocked:

LadyM - I think everyone always worries at some point whether they have made the right decision once they are pregnant. With DD I had a wobble about it all when it was 'real' as it happened so quickly. And with baby now, I have had a couple of wobbles over money but also how close I am with DD and I worry she will feel pushed out (even tho I have some plans in place to make sure she is involved in everything). Its only natural to have wobbles - its a major thing. I'm sure you will find ways of coping tho, and support groups etc.

Dizsiebubba - yes definately pregnant today! Been sick twice. Lovely. Glad its the weekend and I can slob out tomorrow and rest when I want to. Great news about the doppler. Can you put a link to the one you bought please? I've seen one on amazon thats in my shopping basket for £26.99 I think that comes with recording stuff and gel. But that said you can hear the heartbeat from week 12 onwards I think? Is that just a guideline?

Just watched DD in her dance show and having a very proud mommy moment. She was fab and put loads of enegry in to everything. :smileyhea Cannot WAIT to tell her the news in the morning!! Hope I sleep ok with the excitement, lol!!

I think it depends on a lot of things such as where the placenta is, the position of the baby and how big you are.

By trying to find the heartbeat before 16weeks it generally causes more panic if it can't be found so they hold off until it is most likely.

Although 8 weeks does seem early. Congrats.

  • I hope you don't mind me joining, I've been lurking for a while.

I'm 8weeks 5days. Been ttc for 3years and after 2rounds of IVF we have finally got here. I honestly never thought it would happen and I am so happy, yet obviously trying to be cautious until 12 weeks comes and goes.

We had our first scan at 6wks 4days as I have tubal issues and it showed TWINS! We are absolutely overjoyed. This is my first pregnancy but OH has 2 grown up sons from his previous marriage.

Not sure what else I am supposed to tell you on my first post! Oh yes my EDD is 18th November but will no doubt be earlier as it usually is with twins

And I'm really suffering with bad morning sickness but trying not to complain too much!

    Hope everyone is ok xx

    Welcome Cake4brains,

I remember the feeling when I found out my boys were twins. Really happy for you.

If they are McDa (one placenta) you should expect to be induced about 4 weeks early (If you don't pop naturally before then) I believe that if they are non identical then they let you go as long as you can but are likely to pop before 40weeks due to space issues)

TAMBA is a good place for twin questions and discounts although the forum isn't the fastest moving.

  • Thanks Kitten Pie. They are non-identical. I had 2eggs transferred and both took. I did get a TAMBA leaflet in the info pack from the fertility clinic. Didn't realise there was a forum tho so will have a look at that.

    Thanks again xx

Deffo a heartbeat! Heard my own and it was a much slower pace and slightly different beat and could only be heard up by my own heart.
Babies was faster and the beats were like a longer beat rather than 2 close ones like mine.

I youtubed what it should sound like so I knew what I was listening for, I had to use loads of gel, push it down really hard and really low. It only worked on one side too and that's where the cramps are so I knew it was on that side! The placenta sounds different, crackly...

Think your midwife did lie to you in that case as I heard and saw my baby's heart beat at 6+5 in my early scan at the hospital. The EPU Nurses showed me it and then told me what to listen for.

I think the say 16 weeks because then it is clear and there is no mistaking it. If people can't hear it they will be worried and down the EPU causing chaos so they probably just use a time that they know everybody's is strong and loud!

I bought it new on eBay for £19 and it included a small tube of gel. It was the angelsounds one on but it now and the seller still has some. Seller was called suzyluvs2shop and included free postage and arrived within a week.
