We will have the screening. I haven't talked to OH yet obviously (as he still doesn't know I'm pregnant, I'm 6+1 today) but we will have. I am too much of a worrier, just want to know everything is ok.

I have got the chocolates for OH and will write the note today, I'm seeing him on Wed!

Can I ask you how early would you fly with a baby? I know that OH would insist of flying to see either my parents or his parents for Xmas (bean is due 24th NOv) but I really don't want to go as early yet. I know that airlines allow you to fly from day 15. It will be a battle to persuade him but I grow this baby so I guess he will need to accept it.

Kavics - You are doing so well not telling your OH! Bet you are so excited to see him and share the news :j:j Not sure at all about flying after giving birth - just to say you probably won't feel like it and the baby won't necessarily come on time. My DD was 10 days over when I got induced, and I had to stay 2 days in hospital due to some quite severe tearing afterwards. I don't think you would have caught me on a plane for any amount of money in the world for a loooong time afterwards. Is it possible that your or OH's parents could visit you at christmas? If not, maybe have a belated christmas trip once you are feeling ready to cope with it.

Welcome moneypenny & congratulations :D If you got 1-2 weeks on a digi, then you will be 3-4 weeks pregnant. Did you have regular cycles? Mine were long and irregular, but I was temping so knew when I had ovulated which made it easier to pinpoint ovulation and therefore work out a more accurate date. I'm 5 weeks today, and I rang the doctors on wednesday. They asked me to go and fill in a form for the midwives, and now I am waiting for them to get in touch for a booking in appt - which I believe will be in between 6-8 weeks of pregnancy.

I didn't have to do a blood test this time, altho last time (pregnancy with DD) the doctor did refer me for a blood test to confirm pregnancy. Not sure that they all do that though, as my friend got pregnant at the same time last time as me, and wasn't required to have any blood taken to confirm pregnancy.

If you ring up the doctors and say to the receptionist that you are pregnant, they will advice you whether or not you need an appointment or not. They said with me as long as I felt fine, then I just needed to fill in the midwife form.

    Welcome moneypenny.

Unfortunately this first 12 weeks can be very slow. You can see your GP at any point and depending on the area you will either be referred to your midwife or will contact them directly.

Booking in appointment will also vary depending on the area and how busy they are but don't worry if you don't get yours until 10 weeks. 1st scan is at 12 weeks.

The GP won't necessarily do a blood test and probably won't even check that you are pregnant they will take your word.

My GP has done all my bloods before I saw the midwife however the midwife would generally do the bloods too.

I hope that this helps a little. If you have any questions there is usually someone on this board who can offer suggestions or advise.

Congratulations and hope your pregnancy is as smooth as possible :D

I asked previously regarding flying and was informed that there was no problem flying during pregnancy as long as the airline was happy to have you. (They each have rules but these are generally in the 3rd trimester)

Personally I didn't fly but then I had the option to get the train and was high risk. My consultant was also happy for me to fly if I wished.

I have flights booked as well for each trimester. I will be 29 weeks pregnant when I go home for the last time in this pregnancy to see my parents and the airline requires a letter from GP that I'm ok to fly. The letter must be dated within 7 days of travelling and it has to state the return date as well. Hope this helps.

Also make sure that you have a good travel insurance already so if you need to cancel your flights than at least you are covered.

I had the combined screening (I'm 17 weeks tomorrow). I wanted it because if I had a high risk I would have done more research into Downs and support groups etc. But as I'm not I'm not going to bother - I wouldn't have aborted a Downs baby either or gone for further tests.

The bloods however have shown up a problem with a hormone level concerning growth. It's low, so I'm having an extra close eye kept on me, which I find reassuring, so I'm glad I did it. But at the same time, it's not unduly worried me because everyone in my side of the family is small. I'm a giant at 5"5!! :)

    Hi Moneypenny,

I just wanted to say that Nikki didn't mean any harm it is just the TTC journey can be very emotional as I am sure you have read and experienced.

I think everyone on this thread knows what you mean by the worry about whether the test will be the same tomorrow and will test regularly for a while.

I stopped testing after 2 weeks. It is nerve racking when all you have is this tiny test to confirm such a big thing which you won't feel is confirmed until you see the bean at your scan.

Moneypuddle, don't let it ruin your day, it happens. Plus your hormones will be blowing everything out of proportion.
