Very quick question ladies.
NT Scan are you having or not
I didnt with my ivf pregnancy but struggling this time. scan doesnt bother me but i wouldnt want to risk miscarriage with an amnio or cvs so midwife said why bother with a scan that may say high risk and worry me but im not sure. any advise?
Hi, just wanted to add my thoughts on this incase it helps anyone. I always thought I wouldn't want an amnio or CVS so the midwife said why bother with the downs testing but we decided to go ahead as DH was happier that way. My downs risk came back at 1 in 10 which is very high risk....especially when you consider that they call anything from 1 in 150 high risk! When it actually came down to it, with such a high risk we felt we couldn't cope with the not knowing, especially when we did our research and found out more about Down's syndrome and how badly affected and poorly some downs syndrome babies can be. We decided to have the CVS done as we felt we needed to know what we were dealing with. The miscarriage risk was 1-2% so 98-99% chance of no miscarriage. Luckily we got a good result and baby was fine. I know everyone is different but I just wanted to share our story with you incase it helps anyone.0 -
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble at work littlemoog - pleased the ranatidine has sorted you out - I'm off to the doctor this afternoon to hopefully get something prescribed as I'm getting so fed up with this heartburn - it doesn't even seem to matter what I eat - it's constant at the moment.
Im betting its a little blue one in there causing you all that hassle
also make sure your bra isnt too tight - might not feel uncomfortable from the outside but is maybe restricting your inside ?? If that makes sense ?
Hope its sorted soon either way !
Beautiful day here, hope it is where you all are too :TBow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais

I didn't have the nuchal fold test, or the triple test. But then I would have carried on with the pregnancy even if the baby had Down's so it's a no-brainer for me. Why worry about something if you don't have to?
It's too much of a personal choice to advise though. You have to weigh up your desire to know against how likely you are to worry. However, without the amnio or CVS you'll never get an answer anyway; you'll simply get a reassurance (low risk) or something to worry about (high risk).
So the question becomes, how much do you need the reassurance?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
We have our suspicions that it's a boy too mishka- it was being very awkward at the scan and not keeping still for the sonographer to take it's picture lol. I told her it must be a boy then!Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

Obviously the opinion I hold about scans is a little tainted compared to most (and it may well offend some of you), but I think thats a pretty good way to look at it lisa.
I personally feel if you arent going to act upon the information you are given from a scan then why have one at all. They cant do half a scan and only share with you the good results, and if you have declined the nuchal fold part of the scan because you wouldnt act upon the result what would you do if an anomaly was detected in the standard part of the scan ? spend the rest of the pregnancy worrying what it is ?Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais

It's worth knowing as well, alamaya, that there's a small opportunity for reassurance at the 20 wk scan. There are a number of 'soft markers' for things like Down's, e.g. bright spot in the heart. They're not hugely accurate, i.e. if some are found it doesn't mean your baby has Down's, but it's comforting if none are found.
If you decide not to have the NT, you might still gain some useful reassurance at your 20 wk scan."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Dizsie - we've only told my immediate family and one friend because DH is superstitious. If it was purely my choice, I'd have told everyone! I guess I respect his concerns and just don't talk about it. I've had a few people asking me if I want kids and I just say 'yeah, someday'. Or if someone asks when, I'd say something 'when the time is right' or 'we've talked about it, but we're not sure yet', etc. I'm just keeping the same answers as I gave them before if that makes sense. It's hard though. Would it help if you told another one person/couple who is not superstitious?
Thanks for the tips on the full bladder thing. I've not had my scan yet but was a little worried that my bladder would burst as soon as it was touched. Worry no more;) I'll just drink a couple of pints on the way I think.:jBaby girl born 3rd October 2012:j0 -
thanks everyone for your kind words.
in respect of the scans there have been a couple of times where i have drank the recommended amount and literally been crying for them to scan me (and they always press really hard as well!) and on a couple of occasions ive been told my bladder was so full it affected my picture and she even showed me my bladder on the screen (this was a private scan that we had and the picture came on a big flat screen tv)
so i think im going to try and be a bit more reserved this time and go to the toilet before i go and drink soem water on the way to hospital (takes us about 30-40 mins) plus time waiting for scan, hopefully will be alright. but for the internal scans ive always been told to have an empty bladder and they have made me empty it again before they scan.
hoping everyone has a good day.0 -

I've known since saturday morning so 3 days so far and apart from telling OH we have only told a couple that we are both close to so that he can confide in the husband and i can confide in the wife. I just want to tell everybody, but my family are so superstitious! x
I am now around 14+3 ( ish) and we have told health professionals only, and hope not to have to tell anyone until 20 weeks if we have to. I see my family fairly regularly so it will depend on how quickly I show. Last time we told everyone before the stick was dry so very different this time round.fluffnutter wrote: »It's interesting about scans and full vs empty bladder. For my 12 week scan I was advised to come with an empty bladder, but I can see that others have been advised differently. Odd.
Lewisham hospital don't require a full bladder and they make you do your urine sample before the scan so you empty it. I believe it depends on the equipment they have at the hospital.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

When I needed a full bladder for my 20 wk scan, I went to the loo and then drank a pint of water 1 hour before the appt. This was absolutely fine for the purposes of the scan, and I didn't feel like I was at risk of weeing all over the sonographer.
