  • Thanks for the welcome!

I just rung GP surgery to book an appt - its my first PG and we are on top of 2 hospitals etc so i need to speak to somebody about alsorts - plus high risk of missed MC in my family history so would like an early scan if they can do one.

Receptionist tells me i dont need to see a doctor - just tell her what hospital and she will book me in a 12 week scan.... :S

    Eventually got an appt!!!

Good job on getting an appointment dizsiebubba! I agree with you about seeing the GP if you have any concerns. I hope it won't be too long until you see your GP and hopefully you'll get a scan soon too!

Alamaya I'm not having the NT scan either. Just a dating scan. That was my personal choice and my partner agreed that he didn't want one either, we didn't need to know if there was slightly more risk as I wouldn't be going through with CVS or amnio so felt the stress may be more detrimental than good.

Welcome laura. Congratulations on your pregnancy xx

Diszi, i couldn't get an early scan this time even with a previous missed miscarriage. I think they only take into account instant family when doing the family background too such as mum, dad, brothers and sisters. I think every practice is different with my first pregnancy i saw the doctor and never got to meet the midwife as she was booked for 12 weeks and i had mc by then, with this pregnancy i booked direct with the midwife at my gp's surgery saw her at 7 weeks then had my booking in at 10+2 and at 7 weeks appt i was given a number to ring to book my own scan. So i think all practice's are different in their approach. My only words of advice are try to stay positive, I've been petrified this time of it going wrong again, and I'm now at the same point where I started bleeding last time so I am on constant knicker watch and every little twinge or ache sends me into a blind panic, but i still try to stay positive.

Am 11 weeks today and keep needing to run for a wee which is funny because last week when we had the booking in appt I did a wee and forgot to do it in a pee pot to take with me. So cue me drinking loads to try and wee again and I couldn't wee at all, eventually managed one but it was so pale it looked like tap water lol. My sore boobs have eased off but I still have erect nipples all the time, and one of my nips has got really big and dark so i look a bit odd topless, luckily the only one who see's me like that is my OH. Still had no morning sickness but have found I can't walk around morrisons without gipping and retching which is ironic as I work in a supermarket. Have been a bit more tired than normal and had a little bit of heartburn - thank god for Tums! and that's about it I think. I'm sure when I mention to OH I only have x,y,z symptoms he will remind me of more like being a moody bum or something lol.

    Good luck today sexymouse. :)

been to the gp this morning and got some ranitidine for the acid reflux - it got worse and worse over the weekend and i've hardly had any sleep due to massive acid coughing fits every time i lie down flat. been sleeping propped up on 3 pillows, but as soon as i drift off i turn onto my side and slide off them :o hope the medication works quickly, would really like some sleep tonight!

Ranitidine's pretty good stuff. Commonly known as Zantac. Doesn't work for me though - I'm on harder stuff that than! :D

    Hello ladies!

Back from scan - all went well. Moon saw the baby (came up really clearly the first time she put the scanner on me) and said, "there's a little dude in there!" It made me laugh!

Had the blood test, so will get the results by the end of the week.

We told MIL (lives next door) when we got home, and she's thrilled - just been sat around there for a while, hence why I'm back a bit later.

The bladder thing was a bit of a problem - I was sick again this morning, so drinking anything was making my tummy hurt. I got to the hospital and had to go for a wee as we'd hit so many bumps in the road on the way that I thought that I may be sick from the pressure. I tried to drink a bit in the waiting room (brought a bottle in case) but they called me in shortly afterwards. She did say that cos I'm so slim it shouldn't be a problem, but the picture was slightly more grainy because of this. Never mind - we've got at least 1 really clear picture.

Baby was moving around loads, and kept on curling up, so it was hard for her to get a clear picture before it moved again - I told her it must be a boy then! lol It looked like it was doing bunny hops at one point!

I'm now 13 weeks +1, so due September 23rd! They've moved my anomaly scan forward to 18 weeks ish so that they can check for spina bifida as apparently they don't do the alpha protein test any more.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

  • Hi dizsie - I'm having both at the same time, scan and booking it at 12+2 and never saw the gp. Saying that, I was told that if I had any concerns I should see the gp...

Wonderful news on the scan sexymouse! I'm really happy for you :)

I see you girls talking about different scans and tests. At which point do I need to decide what I want to have?

    hi everyone,
hope you dont mind me introducing myself. Found out yesterday im preg so only 4 weeks (by docs dates), so still early days. Ive had a mmc in the past and a molar pregnancy so we are trying to be cautious about the news this time. Only me and oh know until at least the 12 weeks if not more.

Completely paranoid about any sort of scan as i have far too many bad memories and worries of being in the epu and the scanning room.
Havent made my mind up yet on whether i have any scans and effectively live my life from scan to scan every 2 weeks or whether i just hold out and hope everything will be ok at the 12 wk one.(but i can imagine it would be a long time to wait and worrying if another mmc would happen again)

I probably need one at 6-7 weeks to rule out a molar (make sure there is a heartbeat) and then whether i want any more because of the mmc before, but i suppose its very early days yet and ive got a couple more weeks to work that one out. Not even planning to see doc or midwfie until the last possible moment, having been there a couple of times before its kinda lost the shine, they cant do anything or see anything until a heart beat is seen so just going to hold out till a lot later. Am i weird for feeling like this? i think its just probably not wanting to get on the rollercoaster of hospital apts the it has been for me in the past and the thought of going through that again.

sorry for the long post but just wanted to say hi, i also recognise a few names on here as well from the ttc board, which is lovely. :T

sending good wishes to everyone and congrats on your scan sexymouse, sounds like you got to see some lovely movements!
