I've had an internal scan with all three of my pregnancies. I sadly mc'd the first two but I don't for one second believe this was the cause. With my last pregnancy I had the internal scan at 6 weeks and the baby died at 11+3 and had I an external scan at 11+1 which showed baby fine and heart beating so it wasn't related to the internal scan.

The sonographers know what they are doing. Also there is no way they would use internal scans if there was an increased risk of miscarriage as any risks would outweigh the benefits. Most early scans are performed for reassurance if doing so would increase the risk of mc it wouldn't make sense for them to perform them.

There's some more information here that should put your mind at rest.

It's unlikely we'll get any handmedowns but I'm hopeful that being the first one will mean that we'll get lots of presents Thanks everyone for letting me know when they're buying bits and bobs.

All was good at my scan yesterday dated at 11+5 today so I was pretty spot on with my dates - well after I got bored about 6 weeks and decided to move myself forward a few days.

We will start telling people next week - eek, bit too real then! Off on hols next week for 3 weeks so I will not be around, hope all is well with everyone and there are some new joiners in that time

Hey, thanks for the messages, we've just got back from the scan.

Its not good news for us at the moment unfortunately, firstly we had a 10am appt but didnt go through to see anyone until about 10:40 - we then had a scan with a normal sonographer (who I informed we should be seeing the fetal specialist - her response was 'you were in my tray' :mad:) who said everything looked fine. Another half an hour wait and we were called through by a clinic nurse who said we were there on the wrong clinic day and needed to go back in the morning. I asked again why I hadnt seen the specialist which she didnt have a clue about it, turns out that my file was put in the wrong place so back to the waiting area we went. Finally we got called through at 12pm to see the correct person !

He has informed us that whilst baby appears to have no abnormalities there is, yet again, only one artery in the cord as opposed to the 2 there should be. Combined with other defects this is a soft marker for conditions such as Downs and edwards. The stomach, brain, limbs and nasal bone all look present and correct which is a good sign. We were offered a CVS which I have declined at the moment - i really dont want to go through that again.

The specialist has agreed to see me again in 2 weeks ish time by which we should have the results of the triple blood test and can make sure baby is growing properly. If it doesnt all appear well we can then have an amnio to get a conclusive result. One of the potential problems a single cord can cause is lack of growth so if i continue with the pregnancy I will be monitored with additional scans.

He has moved us forward a bit from 12w+4 to 13w+1 which is a good sign as it means baby is not small for gestation.

Really gutted to be facing all this again

Mishka, i only know a little bit about what happened last time with you and i'm sorry to hear you have this worry to contend with this time around too. It sounds like once you finally got seen by the specialist he was helpful to you, and i hope you get all the help, support and guidance in the next few weeks/months/years you need x

Mishka, so sorry to hear its not all good news but like you say, its good that all the bits they would expect to see are there and that the size is good so far. I'm glad they're seeing you again relatively soon and hopefully things will have progressed nicely by the time you go back. As you probably know, i've had a difficult time with lots of scares about the baby so if there's anything I can help with then feel free to PM me.

Sorry to hear the news mishkanorman. Although not great news, it doesn't sound like anything is certain. I REALLY hope everything goes well.

Im not sure if its denial at the moment but I am feeling ok about what we were told, I just wish I could tell my boys about the baby - I couldnt put them through another loss though

Think I will move over to the next thread and carry on as normal until im told otherwise !
