    Morning ladies,

I've got another question for you. I've been suffering really badly from bloating, indigestion and heartburn, and wondered if there is anything that you've tried that works other than buying gaviscon, as after an unpleasant experience of taking some MrT chewable heartburn tablets, I don't think I want to go down that route?

    Welcome to mysk and haras.

sm, with my doctor's and midwife's knowledge I take omeprazole for my acid reflux. TBH, I was taking it before pregnancy anyway and simply continued.

You'll have to get it prescribed. Although you can buy it OTC, it's still better to do so with your doctor's say-so, plus it's free then!

I'm not trying to give you medical advice, just letting you know there are options available that are safe to take during pregnancy. Personally I have such bad acid reflux without being pregnant that 8 - 9 months of heartburn would have made me unbelievably miserable.

Talk to your GP if it's really bad. Other than that, it's gaviscon I'm afraid. Which does diddly-squat for me.

Found out last week im pregnant - around about 5 weeks

I had sex last night and have had red spotting since, used a pad over night which had a small ammount of blood in and each time ive been to loo had red when i wipe- tonight its gone a pale brown.

Im feeling worried but no one seems to want to help me. Ive tried doc, midwife & epu and theyve all told me to wait 2 weeks then ring again, i rang out of hours as i have a stomach ache although not adominal pain and doc said it sounds like im miscarrying but im not convinced as im not in alot of pain & not bleeding heavy.

Has anyone else experienced the same or simular? x

It's incredibly common to bleed after sex during the early months of pregnancy. It's usually just because your cervix is more sensitive. Without wanting to stray into the realms of medical advice, it does sound like you're describing exactly that, particularly as the bleeding is now easing off. Generally speaking pale pink, or brown blood is far less of a worry than bright, fresh blood.

I'm amazed your doctor can 'diagnose' a MC given the scant information you've given him/her, and especially without even looking at you! I had brown bleeding/discharge on and off for weeks during the first month of my pregnancy. I'm now 25 weeks gone with no problems whatsoever. Your lack of bad pain is encouraging, and abdominal/digestive discomfort is really common in pregnancy because the high levels of progesterone slow down your gut. Does it feel like period cramping or more like indigestion?

I completely understand how worried you are though. If your GP is completely unwilling to help at this stage, how about continuing to do a hpt every couple of days? This *might* give you some confidence as the line should continue to stay nice and dark if your pregnancy's continuing with no problems. It's horrible to have that uncertainty but many, many women have been where you are and everything has worked out absolutely fine.

The ligaments in your lower abdomen will be stretching to accommodate the larger uterus - you won't be able to see a bump yet, but things are moving around to make room for baby already! In all 3 pregnancies, this ligament achieness was my first indication that I was pregnant and is totally normal. Feels a bit like you've stretched to quick and something has gently twanged?

Sorry if TMI, but I have had really bad constipation in early pregnancy and this gives me a stomach ache! Make sure you drink plenty of water and lots of fibre to keep things moving :-)

Oh, and I did a test with FMU and it is still a proper positive so am a bit more reassured. Thanks for the advice!
  • LittleMoog - I'm glad I'm not the only one who's very tired despite the extra sleep! Good news on the car! Hope you get it soon and that your throat gets better soon too. I found that keeping my throat moist by sipping water/juice/whatever you fancy helped me when I had my cold.

lalaland11 - I'm afraid I can't give any advice as I'm a newbie but I just wanted to say congrats and I hope all goes well and bean hangs in there.

I've bought a couple of books so really looking forward for them to arrive. At what point should I start thinking about buying baby stuff?? I'm not keen on going pram shopping at 38 wks but think 9 is too early. When are you starting? Or have you started already?

We won't be buying anything til after the 12 week scan, but then will start to get bits and pieces - we're signed up for NCT classes so will try and get to any Nearly New sales near us to get some bargains!

TBH, I hope we won't have to buy that much, as 3 of my sisters have kids and there are lots of handmedowns available. No one else should need any of the small baby stuff when we do (unless there's exciting news I don't know about yet ;)) so we'll be set for alot of the newborn-3 months equipment and clothes (crib/moses basket, bouncy chair, baby bath etc, they've been round everyone!)

I've started a spreadsheet to track what we need to get, and the only major purchases for us will be nursery furniture, travel system and washable nappy set which we'll wait to get til after 20 week scan. I've already got it mostly picked out and priced up though, DH says I'm a control freak :o

At 24weeks I will purchase an outfit for the baby, I have boys clothes and a cot in storage. If we have a girl I am sure she won't mind wearing outfits with trucks on them.

Due to previous issues when I go into hospital I will ring around friends and family to put together the cot and get any final bits and pieces so I will not be preparing beforehand. This may change as I get closer to EDD.

I am entering competitions to win baby stuff, but can't bring myself to think about buying anything.

I started buying the weekend after my 12 week scan. Am now just stocking up on little bits each weekend, sleepsuits, the odd pack of nappies, cotton wool, bibs etc.

I want to have as little to buy as possible when I'm on maternity as we will struggle with the loss of wages. I'm going to look at pushchair over Easter when I will be 20 weeks and will probably look at cots at a similiar time too.

In my experience, it's worth getting stuff in your second trimester. I understand why people want to wait until the first or second scan but, as I've discovered, if you leave it too late you don't have the energy to look at anything!

I'm 25 weeks, went shopping at the weekend for some bits, and was knackered after less than an hour!

a very happy day today, i had my early reasurrance scan, and saw the heartbeat and baby, measuring 9 weeks:j:j

She said there is a 95% that everything will go ok this time now they have seen the heartbeat, so fingers crossed.

Also had my booking appointment this afternoon, so had all my blood taken again.
