Managed to get myself in a tizz because last week I made a salami pizza for me and a pastrami pizza for OH and I ate a slice or 4 of salami cold and it's apparently bad for you. Hoping a one off won't cause any harm.

Feeling carp tonight, and want to go to bed but then when i go to bed i can't sleep, countin down the days till I know everything is ok x

Ikkle, do you mean you ate the salami uncooked or the cold pizza? if it was the cold pizza then it's fine as the salami has been cooked. if it was the uncooked salami then you should also be fine as I believe the reason you 'shouldn't' have it is the risk of listeria. If there had been problematic levels of listeria in it then it would have made you ill yourself and I assume you haven't been. Also, don't forget that in most other european countries alot of the foods that we are advised not to eat here (in our lovely nanny state!) are not even mentioned to pregnant women. i know in france they aren't advised against the cheeses we are told to eat and in lots of countries pregnant women eat cured meats etc as normal.

Ikkle, I think it's only on the avoid list because it's a cured meat, and therefore not cooked, so there's a potential to pick up bugs which could be more dangerous when pg. If it was supermarket stuff I wouldn't be too worried. I've never got ill from eating salami, although I'd probably avoid any fancy artisan stuff from farmers markets etc!

I'm having major bra issues, got fitted last saturday and bought 2 in my new size, but they're already feeling tight! Need to get to Bravissimo for a proper fitting soon, as not convinced the girl in Debenhams knew what she was about :(

We went for a test drive in a new Vauxhall Meriva last night. We currently have a 5 door Polo and a 3 door Y reg Focus, which we're hoping to replace before the baby comes. Really liked the Meriva, nice to drive, spacious inside without being massive outside.

Best thing was that it's back doors open the opposite way to normal which would make accessing car seats really easy, which is important as i've got a recurrent back injury and any twisty/lifting movements can set it off. I had a major spasm when lifting my nephew out of his car seat last summer. however the saleswoman was trying to convince us to buy a brand new one at £15000 (£2000 discount off list price). Looked online when we got home and could get a 1 year old one with only 12000 miles on for £8000. That's some depreciation! Even factoring in for not getting 0% finance on the used one, there's about a £5000 difference! We still want to see a few other cars, but we're hoping to get the new one sorted out over Easter before the Focus MOT is due.

Yeah it was a few slices of supermarket salami straight out of the packet. The rest was cooked on the pizza. I guess I'm just paranoid lol. Never got this far in my last pregnancy and so keep thinking its gonna go wrong again. I just need a kick up the bum and some pma. Every morning I wake up and say to OH I don't have symptoms then the sore boobs, nausea, heartburn and bloated ness kick in. And I keep getting twinges which I think are stretching etc and so keep telling myself I wouldn't get those if the jellybean wasn't growing.

LittleM we just scrapped our Astra (which my OH had boyed up with PECO big bore exhaust, alloys etc) and bought a 5 door Ford Focus. It's a lot higher so makes it easier for me to get in and out of as I'm suffering with my back x

I remember last pregnancy saying that if I got pregnant again I would move to France. There you can have cheese, pate and a small amount of wine. It doesn't help that usually cheese and pate make up a large part of our diet. Pate is our go to 'can't be ars*d to cook' dinner/lunch.

If I do slip, which isn't often I try not to worry and pretend I am French. The only slip this pregnancy so far was the Brie cheese I had (thought it just had to be pasteurised) I mentioned it to the midwife and she didn't seem in the slightest bit concerned. (as a one off at least)

I have to admit our focus has been such a pain I wouldn't consider another one :( We've had it 7 years, from 4 years old, and there's never been a year where we've spent less than £8-900 on repairs and maintenance, and sometimes much more. 2 of my sisters have them too though, and have had v few problems, so I guess we were just unlucky.

I've been eating loads of pasteurised brie! Plus I'm not completely teetotal. Mind you, I didn't drink in the first trimester but now I'm well into my second I figure the odd glass of wine won't hurt  :D

  • I'm glad you've had not more spotting LittleMoog! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :) and for ikkle87 too. I'm new to all this but I'd have thought you'd be ok with the salami.

Sometimes I wonder if the 'don't eat this or that' is more like advice rather than a set rule. Most women I've met haven't completely given up stuff and their babies were fine. Also, my mum was told that having a glass of red wine every night was a good thing and so she did (even though she doesn't really drink!). We're all turned out just fine (or so we think:rotfl:).

On the topic of Debenhams, once, following a bra fitting, I bought 3 bras that were completely the wrong size. I'd decided to wear one for work and at the end of the day, the bits where the wire touches the skin were bleeding! To make matters worse, when I went back for a refund, I was told it was the right size! I don't think so.... obviously not everyone is like that, but I'm scarred for life and I'll always 'try and test' it before taking tags off just in case.

Thank you Kitten_Pie and Student_Mrs. It's nice to know I'll be able to get away with the 'I've put a couple of pounds on' line :)
hi bikeless chick! just popping in but thought I would try and answer. If this is your first baby, like me and you've never had cause for concern, like me (though the paranoia is immense) then your first scan wont be until week 10 and 12 in my area. Mine was on what i thought was 11+4 and i got put to 12 weeks.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, I'm just very paranoid right now. Mostly, because I haven't got a clue about anything. Online info doesn't seem to help me so I may need to consider buying a book.

PS. good news, I got my first appointment with the midwife which includes a scan on the 2nd of April. I'll be 12+2 then:). They've also given me a list of when I'm supposed to be seeing the mw, the GP, etc so at least that's sorted.

    Apologies for the long post:o

    Evening all.

Not chicken pox. Collapsed this morning, face and hands had swelled. Hubby took me to hospital, they said def an allergic reaction, but they could not givee the shot because of the bean. But my throat was swelling so they said sorry but if you get any worse we are going to have to give it to you. They took me by ambulance to a !!!!!! hospital, where they gave me loads of steroids, which started to work thankfully! At home now, got more anti histamines to take, but the pharmacist said to take them sparingly as they aren't recommended for pregnant women. No idea what caused it.

Oh my goodness taadaa! That sounds scary. Glad you're feeling a bit better now. Hope the antihistamines don't hurt bean and that you are feeling 100% soon. Good job your husband was around!
