  • Hi all, hope everyone is ok and didn't have too much of a worrying weekend! The worrying seems to not stop! I've had to come up with saying what will be will be otherwise I'll drive myself craxy! Saw the doctor on friday and he gave me quite a lot of info and some free pregnancy vitamins which was nice. I have my booking in app on 20th Jan. Was a bit worried over the weekend as had some bleeding but only after a bowel movement. I know I have a very sensitive cervix that does bleed easily so I'm pretty sure it was this combined with the joys of having IBS! Have no other bleeding and it stops almost immediatly so I'm not going to worry unless it keeps on happening! Has anyone else had any trouble like this?

thanks rjh.. :) yes once i know i can, im going to go mad buying stuff. hehe cant wait for ALL of us to do that! Just being patient and good though now and keeping positive. :)

hey penguin, i normally suffer from ibs and had a case at the weekend, where i was constipated. this morning, i was worried that i would bleed, but touchwood i was ok. peppermint tea helps to soothe the belly. :)

can i ask about vitamins and stuff please? I was told to take folic acid, which i am taking daily. are we allowed to take additional vitamins like vitamin c etc (it would esp help with my cold)? the gp was totally useless, so seems like i have to bug you ladies here and the MW when i see her :) at the mo, i fancy a coffee so badly. i read that we are allowed 200mg per day, with tea being 75mg of caffeine..i also cant stop eating spicy food.. i hope that is ok?

Rups if you can manage why not make the switch to decaff? Means you can have as much as you like really without worrying.

Spicy food- go for it while you can. With morning sickness and indigestion a possibility later on, you may not fancy it for a while later on!

If you can avoid caffeine its best to- decaff coffee, tea and coke are a better option to get into the habit of early. Once baby starts kicking harder you may not want to set him/her off with a dose of caffeinated drink! Dont forget there is caffeine in chocolate too.

Other vitamins. Well, Folic acid is definately one to take. It might be best to look for a specialist Pregnancy vitamin like pregnacare if you really want to take something extra, as there are so many rules on how much, how strong etc.

thanks gilly and kira.. i guess its because ive got that cold, i feel i want to have comfy hot drinks like amilky coffee but can try de-caf.. as long as tea is ok and diet coke (as i love diet coke). you are right, dont want baby to be high on fizz and stuff. water at the mo, is just yuck as my taste buds arent working.:(

i asked about pregnacare but the pharmacist said not to take it with folic acid, as it has its own folic acid, so that would be over dosing. might wait and ask the MW then as want to be sure and not take stuff excessively. poor work people though, they keep tellingm e to take nightnurse and knock myself out and i am like yes yes i will. lol

You can get decaff Tea too Rups, I bought 360 Tetley for £3 the other week in Sainsburys, they were on offer :)

It means you don't have to worry about the caffeine in chocolate etc if you do go down that road. I've certainly not given up my takeaway coffees.

ah i am ok in terms of chocolate and have the occasional craving and i tend to eat little bit before i feel sick. my weakness is tea and sometimes a nice milky coffee (hate strong coffees). Have made myself a decaf coffee for the first time. lets hope its nice. i think with tea i need a proper cup in the morning. :)

Yes, you don't want to take folic acid AND pregnacare. Just the pregnacare will take care of your folic acid needs. If you need a Vit C boost for your cold, then best to eat lots of citrus fruit or berries for a few weeks. If you need a hot comfy drink, then a nice hot chocolate, or even better, real honey and lemon, with a big chunk of fresh lemon, and a good squidge of honey.

Re: diet coke. Please look for the diet coke GOLD, as it is the caffeine free diet version, which is what i switched to. Having said that the aspartame in it is REALLY bad for you, and not great for developing beanies either. If you can possibly do without diet coke, have a look for a soft drink with out aspartame in it at all. I switched to Sainsburys diet cloudy lemonade, as it uses sucralose which as a sweetner is alot better.
I didnt get on with water either at one point in my pregnancy- went from drinking bottles of the stuff to throwing up every time i had some. I found fresh apple juice diluted alot with water was the best thing.

  • Thanks for the advice Rups! The vitamins the doctor gave me were sanatogen ones and they have vitamin C in them. Also for a good dose of vitamin C have kiwi fruit as it has more in it than an orange!

i normally enjoy two litres of water every day but not recently since i cant stand the taste of water with a sore throat. i am trying warm water but that wants to make me throw up. yuck. i like fresh juices, so i suppose i can find those somewhere.. i do love dietcoke but i guess its better to stop now. i keep taking lemon and honey in hot water (my mums remedy for sore throats/colds). its disgusting though.:(. i think i will be ok with de caf coffee and some tea and then just warm water (yuck). :(. i need some vit c so i will have some oranges and stuff.:)
