Less than 12 weeks pregnant club! 2

Steel: You should know at 8 days late. If you're that regular then it's unlikely that you ovulated later than you expected. As for the xmas party stuff, I think we'd all recommend that you play it safe - avoid all the pregnancy-related no-no foods (and alcohol) until you are definitely sure that you are not pregnant. That way, you can't do any harm. And as most people say, a weekly HPT is probably the way forward. If you're really late/confused, the GP will be able to get you to have a blood test, which will be more accurate and definitive than a HPT.
We have a question of our own. My DW is 10+3 today, as you know. But she's been bleeding/spotting on and off for the past 3 weeks (since before we went on our holiday). Does anyone know if this is normal, whatever normal means? Surely, it should have stopped by now, right? Has anyone else on here had spotting in early pregnancy? And no, no pain, just usual pregnancy symptoms through and through.
We're off for a scan today or tomorrow, just waiting on EPU to get back to us... but should we worry? Of course we will, but what could be happening?
Thanks.... and SBDTA!Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -
Can I ask a very quick question of you all?
Generally, how soon after conception can a test kit give a positive? I've had a negative test tonight but am 8 days late (never late) and have been experiencing mild symptoms that could be early pregnancy for about 10-14 days.
Should I wait another week and try again? The reason I'm concerned is with the silly season approaching if I am pregnant I need to lay off alcohol and certain foods and if I'm not I'd like to find out what's going on soon rather than sitting worrying until the new year.
Not sure if you are talking about Days past Ovulation (and ergo conception) or period. It is POSSIBLE for a testing kit to give a positive at 8 days PO, but not reliable at 8 days to give a firm answer. At 8 days, you won't get a false positive, but you can get false negatives. I "knew" i was pg at about +4 DPO, DH wouldnt believe me, and i tested every day from about 8DPO, and didnt get a +ve until 14 DPO. Some people do take longer than that to get their positive, and some people, vary rarely, never manage a +ve from a home test. I would say maybe wait till 14 days late, then test using a different brand of test, in case it is a question of the sensitivity of the test you are using. Also make sure you are following the test instructions to the letter. Not saying you arent, but some tests want you to dunk and remove, some to hold in stream and wait, and if you do the wrong thing for the wrong one, it can mess up the results. Also make sure you use first morning wee, when the hormones are strongest.
If you still get a negative, and no period, its worth speaking to the gp and maybe see if they can do a blood test as that is the only way some few people seem to get a result. You may be experiencing what i did the month before we conceived, where my body thought i had conceived, but the process didnt complete. Hence i had some vague symptoms, and i was late, but i did come on eventually. I took it as a good sign, that things were working, and sure enough, next month was the month!
I agree with Whowants2brich though, whilst there is any doubt about whether you are, or are not PG, it is much better to be safe and avoid the drink, soft cheese and pate etc, as you would kick yourself later if you hadnt and were PG!Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Hiya.. I havent experienced spotting myself, but in my time on these boards (37 weeks eeek!), i've seen ALOT of people on here who have. Some once or twice, some a tiny bit, some frequent. It seems to be a really individual thing, which some are more prone to. Of course, i would be lying if i said that it was always completely fine, and thats not helpful, but it seems mostly to be something that happens in early PG and hasnt meant anything terrible! Can be due to lots of things, so wouldnt like to guess on your wife's causes! Always best to mention it to the Docs, and they can sometimes see from a scan if there is a specific cause.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

whowants2brich - hi, I have been lurking on here for ages now, but have never joined in the conversation, but I am hoping I can give you some reassurance. I am now just over 19 weeks pregnant, had my first lot of spotting at 9 weeks, went to the doctors and he picked up the heartbeat, then had bleeding on three separate occasions whilst away on holiday in Jamaica, would of been 13 weeks at this point. I had been referred to a consultant for past problems, and they referred me back to just midwife care and said not to worry about the bleeding. Saw my midwife who said any bleeding in pregnancy is not normal (scared me stupid by the way as had been told everyone is different!) and that if I had anymore then I was to go to A&E. Anyway, at 16 weeks I had more bleeding, so went into A&E, they said everything seemed fine, had a scan the next day that did not really point to anything, and was sent on my way again. Then 3 days later I had a lot of bleeding, was certain I was losing the baby, so in we went to A&E again, still to be told that everything seemed fine, heard the heartbeat etc etc, had another scan and my placenta is low lying, covering the opening to the womb, which they seem to think is the cause of the bleeding. I did not have any bleeding then for just over 2 weeks, and now this week it has started again, saw my doctor yesterday, heard the heartbeat again, which of course is nice and reassuring but I am still worried sick, it just does not seem natural to be bleeding whilst preganant. I know its probably something that I am just going to have to deal with, but it is hard, it is on my mind constantly, even when I am not bleeding every time I venture out I wonder if it is just going to gush out! I have my 20 week scan on Monday, so will see then whether the placenta is still low lying, if it is I believe we will be offered another scan around the 30 weeks mark, and it might mean if it does not move I won't be able to give birth naturally.
Anyway, all the way through, they have tried to reassure me, and my doctor has said that unless I have pain, which I have not had, and if the bleeding is not out of control (I have read on here before that if you soak through a pad in an hour then you should go to A&E) then I don't need to go to hospital. I have felt baby moving since about 15/16 weeks too, so although that reassures me, at times it is just another cause for worry when it's not so active!
I think you do need to try and stay positive (so everyone keeps telling me anyway) and if in doubt go to A&E.0 -

I had so much spotting with this one (talking a really heavy bleed when I wiped) that I was convinced I'd lost it at around 6 weeks - even texted my family to say "looks like I'm having another miscarriage". Told the hospital when they scanned me (because of previous recurrent losses we were getting monitored by the miscarriage consultant) and she did the scan, then stuck her fingers in her ears and said "don't care" about the bleeding... before clarifying that some women DO just bleed, some bleed a lot and since there was a baby in there with a heartbeat going like the clappers - she wasn't at all worried about it! Since she probably sees more sad-endings than anyone else - I'm inclined to take her word for it all!
Previous one that I did lose - I had spotting but a minute amount - no one really suspected that there was any issues at all and I was only scanned to put my mind at ease mainly! You just can't second-guess it!
Veering into TMI territory here - I do know that I get a very mushy cervix when I'm pregnant - and sometimes I think a really good bowel movement gets it wound up and it bleeds a bit then. Of course you add in the after effects of wiping after the loo, thus spreading it around, mixing it with the damp pee drips on loo roll and a little bit of a spot can rapidly look like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
whowantstobrich - I am definitely planning to avoid the whole party thing with friends and family this year, on the pretext that we are up to our eyes in things to do with a particular hobby club hubby is deeply involved with. I did was due some awkward boozy girly lunches this week but luckily I found a box of (old) antibiotics from the bathroom cabinet so if I was pushed I could whip them out and claim an infection. As it turned out, one had an ulcer and was on medication and the other had spreadsheets to analyse in the afternoon and wasn't drinking. Phew!
Kira000 - I was due my period on 28th November. In fact thinking about it I had October's early, I think the 25th. I remember being surprised it was a few days early.
I was careful with the test and made sure I did it properly, however, the test was clearblue and it did say I could do it at any time of the day, so I drank a ton of water about 6pm last night to make sure I had something to test. Perhaps I diluted the hormone too much to be picked up?
A lot of my symptoms could be confused with PMT (and I'm still not convinced it's not), which is why I thought I had a nasty prolonged bout until a friend burst out laughing and told me to get to a chemist.- Breast tenderness (they are also enormous, I caught a glimpse of them in the mirror the other night and thought !!!!!!???)
- Thirsty a lot and have a thick 'cotton mouth'
- A constant light headache
- Light nausea in the evenings (occassional retching) when I lie down to go to sleep. Also a few days ago when I smell fishy things.
- Think I'm cold when my skin is in fact really hot.
- Bloating
- Constipation
- Weeing for Britain
- I am a tea fiend but seem to be going off it. It just tastes weird.
- Gone completely scatty and indecisive. Cannot concentrate for longer than 2-3 minutes on something. Not remembering I've done things or said things
- And this morning light brown spotting when I wipe.
If this carries on into Christmas without me knowing I shall be a wreck.:rotfl:"carpe that diem"0 -
Yes I am experiencing bleeding right now. I am 7 weeks. Spoke to midwife who has phoned EPU and booked me in for an early scan at midday tomorrow. I am terrified. It's not mega heavy but it's definately much more than spotting. No pain so again we are trying to work on the no pain = not a problem.0

Aw bless! I was frustrated at 8DPO so not even due on! Well, being that far after your period, you would expect to be getting a +ve by now on most tests. Is it just the one CB test you did? Certainly worth doing (at least) one more probably at least one of a different make. The extra water may have made things too dilute if it was very early days. And make sure you use mid flow, not the beginning.
Were you tracking ovulation at all to know the details of your cycle other than menstruation itself? It could be that your luteal phase is not exactly average, which can throw your calculations off, and mean that the hormone levels are lower than expected for an "average" LP, and therefore wouldnt always show up on a test as expected.
Go get a few tests, and give it another go tomorrow morning minus the extra fluid, and if its still neg, try again in a few days. If still nothing either way, i think maybe book in with the GP and hassle them for a blood test.
Fingers crossed, and do let us know either way!Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Thanks Kira.
I haven't been tracking anything. My period is just unexpectedly late and until Tuesday I had no real inkling that I could even have been pregnant. Stupid really as hubby and I don't use anything but rhythym - I don't get along with anything to do with hormones, either in pill or injection form, and I'm allergic to latex so we've just never really bothered with anything in the seven years since we met.
I'll get another different test brand and try again tomorrow morning. If nothing, I'll wait a week and try then.
I keep going in the loo every 30 minutes to check 'progress' with the brown spotting. Someone's just asked me if I have a water infection, so I'm not allowing myself to go for the next hour as I'm causing a stir in the office.:D"carpe that diem"0
