Argh, climbing the walls with heartburn as I don't have any rennies left :(

Just wondered whether any of you have had or are going to have the flu jab, I think I'm going to drop in this week and have it as our office is rife with illness!

Amymo I had my flu jab yesterday and have no adverse affects apart from an achey arm. My OH's mum is a nurse and strongly advised me to get it, as this years strain has swine flu in it. She knew of someone last year who lost there baby when they caught Swine Flu.

    Morning all!

I'm not going to be having the flu jab. I can't see that being pg makes me any more likely to get flu, just that the risks are higher if I do get it. As I've only ever had it once in 30 years I think the probability of getting it gives me a lower risk than having a vaccine for no reason! I'm especially not keen on the swine flu bit as its such a new vaccine there's no way of knowing yet if it has any effect on your baby, although I guess its pretty low risk really.

On the flip side, I can understand why people do choose to have it. I've been lurking on the pregnancy forums on here for ages and this is the third winter I'll have seen (how sad am I!!!) and I would say that over that time it seems like there's been a pretty even split of those people having it and those not.

I suppose the other thing is I've got pretty good at avoiding people with colds and ilness generally as my Dad is not in the best of health and if I pick anything up then I can't go see my family incase Dad gets it too as he doen't cope well with even a small cold.

I'm going to be baking a cake for the boys at work tonight. I'm changing jobs from Monday (have voluntered to cover something else for a while) so I promised them one last cake before I leave! (although I may be back yet, have only said I'll do it till the middle of Dec then see what the situation is then) I think it'll be a chocolate victoria sponge with buttercream filling. Yummy!!

Thanks for the tips Kira, will definately use them :0)

Re: Flu jab, I asked the question the other day on the main pregnancy forum as my OH had his on Saturday (he is on immunosupressants) I too was thinking I probably wont get it. No one has offered it to me yet but as Lisa says I feel I am pretty low risk and I would hate to have it and for it to have an adverse effect on my growing baby. I dont already have any kids and as I said my OH has had the jab so I should be pretty safe.

i am seeing the midwife again today,(i see her weekly because of the risk) and because i am a high risk pregnancy i have been strongly advised to have the flu jab but to wait until i am over the 13 week point. i hate being less than 12 weeks every time i go to the toilet im looking for blood i have cut down smoking and each time i have one the guilt is horrible because of the way the midwife chewed my ear off, on a plus side, i am 9+3 today so made it one more day, i know it sounds melodramatic but after the losses we have had each day is an acchevment.
  • Hi all :)

Feeling a bit more awake today so all good here :)

Rang midwife team yesterday and got told someone would get straight back to me to arrange a booking in appointment (according to dates am 5+5 today), no one did so I have called again this morning only to be told I will be contacted when I am 8 weeks :( Is this normal now? I seem to recall with DS I was seen in first few weeks :o

I've not really thought about the flu jab - it has only been three days since I found out afterall :rotfl: I normally get offered it anyway due to Asthma and have never had it done before so can't see this time being much different - will see how I feel if/when they offer it I guess :o

    Hope all ok :)

  • I go for mine a week on Saturday at 10:49am - what an odd time lol.

First scan a week today - I am sooooooo excited, and will also graduate to next thread a week today - bit aprehensive about that though - moves a lot quicker!

Went to see Peter Kay last night - I have not laughed so much in years - was making my sides ache.

I am soooooooooooooooo tired today though and feel like I could sleep for a week! x

  • Hi, just found out I was pregnant 2 days ago. I'm between 3-4 weeks gone according to calculations.

Just wondering how strict everyone's being with their diet? I'm particularly wondering if you are cutting out caffeine? With our first daughter, I didn't take too much notice of advice (ate peanuts, didn't take folic acid etc) but this time round I'm less cavalier, so I'm wondering what other people are doing. I started on folic acid yday, but I'm still drinking plenty of coffee. What's everyone else doing?

    Thanks.
