Congrats plans!! I generally eat pretty healthily and have been taking folic acid since 3 months before we started TTCing. I now take a pregnancy multivitamin that includes folic acid. You can't take 'normal' multivitamins as they contain vitamin A and that can be bad for baby. I haven't had any alcohol and won't be doing, I know they say an occasional glass is ok but it wouldn't feel right to me. I have also been cutting down on ceffeine. According to the NHS website 3 mugs of tea per day is ok so I have that at work then have decaff at home. I avoid coke and coffee as they are high in caffeine and you can have even less of them. The NHS page is pretty good. It says you can eat rareor medium steak as long as the outside is properly cooked and prawns are ok too. really the only things I'm avoiding food wise are the blue & soft unpasteurised cheeses and peanuts but there's lots of controverys over wheter thats necessary or not!
  • Thanks. I def won't be drinking alcohol (didn't in my last pregnancy either) and don't drink fizzy drinks anyway. In terms of cheeses, pate and shellfish, I won't be eating them because of the listeria risk/food poisoning. I had steak yday so hopefully I'll be ok on that front as it was well done!

I think I will eat peanuts still (because I like them and they did no harm last time!)

It was mainly the caffeine issue I was thinking about, as other pregnant women I've known have cut it out completely, but I think that's a bit OTT myself! I'll prob cut it down instead.

My diet is very healthy generally so I'm not worried about it in general.

    Hello everyone!

I had my booking appointment yesterday. When i got to the GP's surgery they were like.. what are you doing here? i had that appointment booked for ages and they said they rescheduled me for the next because of a double booking. I was quite miffed because we already had a hard time booking the first appointment due to work. So they offered me another appointment in an hours time. I didn't have time to go home so i just had to wait.

I saw the midwife briefly whilst i was waiting - i even got there early and she was waiting for her other appointment - the one that stole my place .. She was very apologetic with the situation but she was lovely and gave me all the books to read whilst i was waiting.

At some point another midwife walked past and saw me, we had a little chat, and she offered to fill in some of my paperwork so i only had to wait for about half an hour. when i finally saw my midwife she was really lovely, gave me lots of information, and she said i would be getting my letter about the scan very shortly!

Congratulations and welcome to plans, Jovi and crafting! Crafting, that must have been very hard emotionally, hope youre coping OK.

Laura, round here they dont ask you to drink anything for scans, so I'd ring and ask your hospital. I think the equipment has moved on a lot and so if they have a newer scanner they don't need you to have a full bladder.

As for me, I am sick and tired :( IT is so hard as my DD is at home full time and I am so sick and tired afternoons that I am hardly coping looking after her, barely manage to cook tea (whcih I can;t eat anyway) then get no chores done cos I feel so awful, and OH isn;t doing very much to help. :( He is putting DD to bed but she wants me so cries and shouts and it takes ages, meanwhile I'm trying to rest next door and can hear it all!

I didn;t get sick with DD, so I have no idea how to cope.

    Hey Skintchick,

Have you talked to your OH about it? He might be able to reduce some of the pressure. Just a more practical solution, H and I are going to batch cook lots of meals this weekend, not looking forward to it, but definately looking forward to being able to pop something nutritious in the microwave instead of cooking tea every night which has me running to the bathroom. Could you persuade your DD to lie down and have a nap during the day when you do?

    Thanks Amy.

I need to talk to OH but I know he will help for a few days as long as I specify what needs doing, then go back to doing nothing  I make tea for 6 which is when he gets home, so he can;t help with that but maybe I could try batch cooking (feel too sick to face it though!).

Sadly DD doesn;t have a nap any more or I would definitely nap with her!

Sorry, I don;t mean to be negative, just feel so rubbish.

Thank you, I am coping well with it to be honest, it sounds a little harshe but we are that used to loosing babies before now that we had prepared ourselves to go to the scan and be told we wasnt going to have a baby at all.

it dosent make it any easier but because of the baby inside me now i have to almost put it to the back of my mind and carry on, i also have other kids to consider.

coping with your little one will be hard for a few weeks hun, especially when all you want to do is sleep or be sick i completley understand how it is at the moment. I am lucky that our youngest started school this term but i cant eally have a sleep in the day because we was suposed to have moved in the new house weeks ago and it still isnt ready. i do find myself falling asleep after collecting the kids from school and being woken up by a hungry hubby asking me if i am phoning tea again because i havent made any. batch cooking isnt possible in our house because we wont have the freezer connected in a few days, i really need to make an effort to make sure the kids are getting a good meal inside them cheesy chips isnt good three nights in a row, the only good thing is they have had a good dinner at school.

once we move it will be easier because i will have a kitchen that works
