  • Hi all :)

Hope all ok this morning :)

It feels like this week has taken so long to get to Friday :o Can't wait to finally be able to sit back this weekend and relax a bit - take everything in :)

Just a quick question re. work. When did you tell/have you told your employers yet? Midwife rang me last night and wants me to go for booking in appointment w/c 24th October so I figure I will have to tell work before then. Only problem is, I work for a very small company and I think it will be a bit of a shock to them :o I am dreading telling them but am a bit worried if I start with the morning sickness (like I did with DS), my hand will be kind of forced... In an ideal world, I would tell them after the birth :rotfl:

Anyhoo, apart from that minor niggle, I am good this morning, tired but good hehe

    Hope all ok?

    Jovi x
  • Got the early scan tomorrow! Can't decide if I'm excited or scared - just hope its all ok in there!
I told work pretty much as soon as I knew, mainly because I didn't want to have to worry about what I was telling them if I needed some time off for appointments, or if I was sick etc. xx

Jovi, I haven't told my work yet, I am now 10+3 and was thinking I'll probably tell them the day before my scan as its at 8am so i will be late in and will need to explain why, also that way I'll be able to let all my work mates know when I get in too :)

I have just taken holiday off for my appointments, I find it easier than pretending I have the dentist or something - I'm not good at lying!!

If you think you might struggle with MS then it probably would help to tell them sooner rather than later so they dont think your skiving, the only reason I wanted to wait is because there were bonuses and I didnt want my pregnancy to have a negative effect on how much they give me :o
  • I think I will probably 'drop the bombshell' next week after I have had the weekend to get used to the idea - I will be 6 weeks tomorrow (according to my calcs) and that was when MS kicked in last time.. It's such a small office that if I do get MS they'd guess within a couple of days anyways! Other thing worrying me is that I am the only female here so no-one to really talk to/understand what am going through :o
  • I told my work really early on as I have a great boss, and she has been fab about time off, was going to keep it secret from colleagues until next Thursday after scan, but have total baby brain and just started talking to someone about bump as if they had known all along, and typically it was the one person in the office with the biggest mouth!!!

11 + 1 today and so excited for next week's scan, but also very very nervous and scared! Have been considering getting a doppler so I can try to listen to baby's heartbeat, but think that might scare me even more if I cannot find it! x

I haven't told work yet and won't be doing until after my scan. i wouldn't have done anyway as I wouldn't want to have to tell them if it all went wrong but I have also had the added reason of redundancies and restructuring going on here so we've been waiting to see whats happening. We're now going to try get me redundancy but at such a point that I'd get paid my maternity pay too. We'll be going to see my manager to tell her next week after the scan.

I'm another one who works with all men (apart from my manager but I nevr see her!) and will miss having other girls to talk babies and stuff with. Not a major issue though as I'd prefer to work with all men than all women....that would be my worst nightmare!!!

I agree, having worked with all women before, men are definitely easier to work with :rotfl: Less arguments and b1tching going on

I think I am overthinking it IYSWIM. As I said it's a very small company and in the two years I have been here, I have taken on a lot of responsibility so I feel bad telling them I am not going to be here for most of next year :o

Ah, they're nice people so am sure it'll be fine in the long run :)

I haven't told work yet, my boss is going to be really disappointed to be loosing me for a year so I'm going to feel bad telling her. I wont be telling her until I'm 14 weeks because after the scan I have a holiday booked.

My scans are all on an empty bladder - they have lots of shiny new equipment at my hospital :p

DD decided to throw up on me four times last night. It would be the night that OH is working till 1am and poor me with ms just wanted to sleep. Somehow I got through it and apparently she is better today.

Well..................... I just told mine a few minutes ago!! He seemed just as happy as our families about it which is really nice, I have been here since I was 18 (now 28) so I guess it is like telling my family. I was sooo nervous and went totally red lol! He isn't going to tell any of the other directors or co-workers so now he knows I will be able to tell everyone straight away when I come in after I have had my scan.

Are you all taking a year off then? I am only taking 6 months. I am the main bread winner and am having to save at least £4k just to cover the shortfall while I am on maternity leave :0( That being said, if I can save more then I will take more time off. Bloody mortgages and bills!!!!

Also, we have decided that if one of us gives up work (we are hoping the OH's Mum will do our childcare) it would have to be him as I earn more than double what he does, plus his health isn't great all the time because of his Crohns. Yes I do feel gutted I will be leaving my baby at 6 months from 7.15 to 5.30 5 days a week but unfortunately unless we win the lottery we would never have another option. People who are able to stay at home and bring their children up dont know how lucky they are
  • Awww ((Hugs))) Jennynoo, hope you and DD feel better soon :)

I am in mixed minds as to what to do following Mat leave, I think it's too early to make any decisions now (only 6 weeks into pregnancy after all :o).

My initial thoughts on the matter have been to stay at home ie. not return to work. When I had DS, I went to university when he was 5 months old and although I was not there all the time, I felt I missed out on a lot so don't really want to do that again. Plus, DS's before school and after school club costs us £60 per week at the moment (so approx £240 per month dependant on number of weeks), if we factored in £500 childcare for new baby - it wouldn't really be worth me working. I might look at something part time/from home when the time comes :o

OH is *possibly* inline for a promotion soon so his wages would go up dramatically which would make up the shortfall :)

It's kind of all guess work at the moment :o
