Morning Ladies!
Bella, I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL. It's a very difficult thing to get your head around. You'll both need support now, I'm sure you can be there for each other.
I (finally) had my first MW appointment yesterday. Exactly 14 weeks! It took 2 hours, although I was only with the MW for about an hour. They took my weight and height and blood and talked me through my pregnancy book. I'm so glad I could say "no" to lots of questions. She was very efficient, but in a friendly way. When I told her my dad had died in October and that I have been treated for depression in the past she made sure I knew the warning signs, talked me through the options if I decided I did need help again and made me feel normal.
I didn't get another scan because of my two emergency ones. I wasn't sure about the blood test for downs, so she put "no" for now, but she said I can still change my mind before the next appointment. I do want the 20wk scan, which she called "abnormality scan". She was very honest about the limitations of both tests.
I got a book "ready, steady, baby" which answered loads of my questions, and a bounty pack, which I was too tired to look at last night.
I'm feeling a lot less nauseous, but still very bloated. I'm having to eat little bits here and there, otherwise I can't fit anything in. None of my trousers fit, but the maternity pair I bought is way too big.
My friend, who is just a few days EDD away from me, and who has been off work for six weeks because of constant vomiting, is starting to feel better, so I'm looking forward to meeting up with her soon.
And to all people who are getting weird / negative responses from friends / family / acquaintances, here's a quote from the Kaz Cooke book "The rough guide to pregnancy & birth":
"If anyone else says negative or rude things, it comes from their own experience or their own personality, their own fears or their own problems with body image, babies, their mother, whatever. Every time you hear something discouraging ('Your life is over') or ludicrous ('Childbirth doesn't hurt at all'), just say to yourself 'It's not about me, it's about them.'"
Amen to that.0 -

Anomaly scan is what they call it, as it is to check for anomalies and growth.. easily misinterpretted.

So sorry to hear your news Bella, hugs to you and OH xxx
Such awful news from you too Sequeena, your poor friend
Well I woke up with a killer migraine this morning (on top of feeling hungover) so I'm going back to bed to try and shake it before work this evening. If I've got my dates right I'm 5 weeks today, still no ms luckily but I slept for nearly 12 hours yesterday! 3 weeks to wait until my booking appointment, hope time flies!
Hugs and sticky beans all round xxxx0 -
Hugs Bella, really sorry to hear your news. I hope you're ok.
I wonder if anyone has any advice for me? I have been having crampy, pulling pains for a couple weeks and have hot used to them and stopped worrying. However, last night and this morning walking for the train I have had quite intense stitch type pains just under my ribs, they are muscle pains, and I'm sure its just stretchy expanding stuff again but it had me in tears with worry this morning, just wondering if anyone has experienced this? Once I stop and rest the feeling goes and they have only come on while walking, and I then have to walk a lot slower.
These early days are worrying aren't they! x0 -

Hey
I've had a few stitch like pains when I've moved quickly etc - I think they're just stretching ligament pains - nothing to worry about - although I know easier said than done. When I turn over in bed, I sometimes get a sharp pain low in my abdomen which winds me for a short while.
My m/w said not to forget that everything is moving around in your abdomen to make room for the growing uterus - thinking of how much stuff there is in there, it's bound to feel uncomfortable at times!
As long as it's not prolonged and accompanied with bleeding, you'll be fine.
