Kira, have you thought about having a home birth. I have some time to decide, but my midwife asked briefly about it at my booking appt. and she said that our local midwives (two areas work together) have great success with home births and she actually recommended it as it's much more relaxing for the mum, and she thought that labor progressed better! :)
Kira I would also say that although I love the hospital my children were all born in (all four of them!) some people have written shocking reviews of it, but I have only ever been treated with respect and care (with the exception of one HCA who got into loads of trouble for it mwahahaha that'll teach her to be rude to patients), all the births have been well managed and all my children are fine, I'd recommend it to anyone.

Do you mean the intervention stats? because the local ones to me, I shall say big and small as I'd give away too much with the names.

Small has a green light (ie no c sections or intervention)
Big has a red light (high percentage of interventions)

This is misleading because if anyone who is in Labour at 'small' has a problem, they whack them in an ambulance and blue light them to 'big', giving 'small' the green light (which has no bearing on what actully happens) and leaves 'big' with high intervention stats, because 'big' is a proper maternity hospital with special care and doctors and theaters, and small is just one midwife led ward in another hospital.

This made me quite cross when I found that chart :rotfl:

Jen. Unfortunately because i am a) a geriatric first time mother of 35, and b) very overweight, i wouldnt be considered for a home birth i believe, based on my risk profile. I think its great if likely to be a straight foward birth though.

delain, totally get you on the lies, damn lies and statistic thing. I did read the whole report on both places, and it is unfortunately not just intervention rates, its the whole lot, including ratings from previous patients on care standards and experiences, as well as mortality, interventions, instrument delivery, staff availability etc etc.
I refuse to go to one of them following a horribel experience when i M/C 10 years ago and had to have a clearing procedure under general. Came round in severe pain, to be told by the nurse i should stop complaining, and it would teach me to be more careful next time. Charming. Still don't think i'm over the guilt that particular remark made me feel. I would have kicked up a stink if i hadnt been so distraught and out of it!

*Sigh* i'm going to try and keep PMA that i'll get my first choice and tackle the issue if it arises.

I couldn't remember. I thought it was 4 pics for £5 and I got 1 pic at 12 week scan but I thought 3 pics was a random amount at the 20 week scan so I talked myself out of it again. The random thing thing is you buy those credit/token things and I know it's so the hospital is safe and doesn't have loads of cash on site but I'll feel c@rp if I forget lol.

Kira - because you are a "high risk" pregnancy you may get first choice at the hospital you want as you'll be a higher priority. Fingers crossed it works out.

Glad you've got your scan through missymoo. Can they still do NT at that stage?

You can get them at a later date so i doesn't matter if you do forget it.. another option is to get them before your scan date and keep it in your purse so you have it.. The machine is right near the main door as you go in so difficult to forget!
