I could be wrong but I thought the pregnancy hormone that the test detects stayed throughout the pregnancy?
After a certain point im sure they stop working. A girl in my work was horrendously ill but due to being on the pill she never did a pregnancy test. After a few months she did one and it came back negitive, doc sent her for a scan anyway and she was 7 months gone =\.0 -
Good afternoon.
TTC40 - yes, all pregnancies are dated from the first day of your last period.
Pigpen - that def looks more like a 13 week bump than a 9. How has no one in your family noticed?? Especially your OH?!
Many thanks for the hugs and words. No more spotting since, thank goodness. I haven't phoned anyone, so will just monitor the situation for now. The tiredness is definitely kicking in, which isn't great when I have so much coming up the next couple of months.
Bloat has definitely settled in here. I had to use the hairband trick on my jeans for church this morning. But it felt soooo much more comfortable. Looking forward to getting some maternity jeans when the time is right. They are just too comfy0 -
great news MiffyMoo
I'm definitely considering a change in trousers. I gained half a stone over Chistmas which I'm not really allowed to shift because I'm preggers. Jeans are getting tight round the belly region and I feel more bloated too. I might try leggings first tho.0 -
Anyone else find they have gained weight? I think it's because normally I am always on a diet but now I'm not there is no restraint. Also the hospital have put me on a massive dose of insulin to protect the foetus from high blood sugars, (I'm diabetic) and I keep getting crashes (hypos) where I have to eat sugary things to get my levels back up, and this sugar is turning straight to fat. This happened last time and I put on 5 stone but I was less to begin with, I never did get back to my pre pregnancy weight. So I'm going to try and eat healthily, limit snacks to just fruit etc. Just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean i need to eat like a pig.
Hi there - for what it's worth, I'm also struggling. From about week 3 (before I even had a positive test) my blood sugar control has gone mad. In one way I've OK because I've been told this is to be expected, but in another it's really stressing me out because it's not been so bad for ages. It's not helped by the fact that I lost quite a bit of weight and managed my diabetes by eating a low carb diet (reduced my insulin requirement massively) and I've been told that I need to include some carbs again, so it's all a massive juggle...0 -

I lost 2 and a half stone last year so I'm scared that I'll put it all back on. It's quite funny because if I gain what I'm supposed to gain during pregnancy, I'll be back to my weight January 2011! Now I'm eating crisps and chocolate and lots of food in general. It's strange to go from 1400 calories to 2000 without feeling that I'm pigging out. It must be much worse with something like diabetes as blood sugars can affect baby.0 -

Don't wory so much about low blood sugars, its the highs you have to watch particularly up to week 10 when they can cause birth defects. I'm always injecting too much so that I protect the foetus from the highs but I means I have a lot of hypos - not looking forward to the next 7 months only bonus is I will have an elective c section at 38 weeks so shave off two weeks at the end and no need to worry about labour!0 -

Tell me about it - even something simple like a sandwich can become a lethal weapon (well not just one but a lot of them) if I don't inject the right amount of insulin. I forgot to do my morning dose on Friday and came home with a really high blood sugar, freaked me out thinking I was poisoning the baby and couldn't work out why it was happening until I saw my pen all dosed up in my bag and worked out I'd forgotten to do it. After 10 weeks you pass the stage where it can cause birth defects but it can affect the growth of the baby and other things so it never really stops until the baby is born. All worth it though so I musnt complain.0 -
I attended a diabetes pre conception clinic which really helped me reduce my hba1c.
I have also been set very tight targets. I often feel like its easy for the doctors to set these levels and judge us when we don't meet them but unless you battle diabetes day in day out you have no idea how difficult it can be.
I am booked in for a diabetes antenatal appointment next week. Not sure what they'll do then but probs just bloods and advice etc as ill only he about six weeks.0 -

HCG peaks at around 8-10 weeks then gradually decreases, but does remain until after birth.
Sometimes too much hormone in the body can result in a false negative on a HPT, not sure why?
Glad to hear im not the only one unable to function. Ive lost quite a bit of weight, my tummy is virtually flat, am about 8 weeks today.
