My story is that I've taken strong painkillers for a migraine earlier so I'll drive & have a drink when we get back to the house later.

I can then have a (no vodka) & coke later which they won't see poured so will be none the wiser.

If only OH could be the pg one as he's not bothered about a drink & people are used to him driving.

I've cancelled a couple of events in the next few weeks rather than have a difficult situation.

Major challenge though is a holiday with a group of friends - go in 2 weeks. Am currently thinking about a 'kidney infection' which means I'm on tablets so I have to lay off for the start of the holiday - then just letting it stretch to a few days more. We are there for a week.
  • welcome and congratulations TTC40

I'm rubbish at lying so I can't help people with the no drinking thing!

I am having vivid dreams, I dreamed that OH was vacuuming whilst I was asleep and got very annoyed! yeah that was a dream...carpet still just as messy lol
  • Good to see you on this thread TTC40 :)

I use the antibiotics one too, and find that if people start questioning it, I just say I have a bladder infection..people normally don't want to probe too far into that one! :rotfl:

I'm in the limbo stage at the moment where I have had a scan and seen my baby, but haven't really started showing yet..I'm definitely looking flabby round the middle, but it looks more like paunch rather than baby bump.

Got another 8 weeks till my next scan..meh.

    Hi and congratulations.

I normally find saying I'm on anti-biotics or a health kick a good way to get around drinking. Or say you have an early start the next day?

I'm telling everyone that I've given up drinking for lent. I have a big work do this week and am anticipating plenty of peer pressure (or guesses on the real reason I'm not drinking), but am sure I'll survive :-)

Hi ladies, it's time for me to join this thread.

I got a BFP this week (well 3 actually - just to be sure!). I'm about 4-5 weeks.

It's the first BFP for me. I'm 41 & been TTC for 18 months. Had a lap about 9 months ago to clear blocked tubes & have conceived on cycle 4 of Clomid.

I haven't qualified for NHS fertility support (as well as being over 40, I'm overweight) so I've been seeing a FS privately.

I'm having a (private) early scan next Saturday. FS said he recommended this if I got pg soon after the lap as there's a higher risk of ectopic then. I don't think it is now particularly 'soon', but would like the scan anyway. The only thing I'm expecting from it is to know the pregnancy is in the right place (hopefully).

I'm sure I'm no different to anyone at this point - excited, hopeful but trying to keep a check on reality as I know there's a long road ahead & don't want to get my hopes up too much.

Phoned the GP (to cancel a smear I had booked!) & asked what I needed to do. It's straight to the midwife at our practice. The next appt available is 18 March when I think I will be about 7 weeks.

It's just OH & I who know (& you guys). No-one knows we have been TTC - it will be a total shock to everyone.

First challenge is tonight as we are our with friends - I am normally a drinker. Having to make excuses about why I'm driving.

Fingers crossed I am here for the next 8 weeks.

What an amazing road you have walked.. I am delighted for you!

I tend to not always drink when I go out so noone is evere any the wiser... not that I have been out in the last 3 years lol.. If I do drink I have vodka and lemonade that looks just the same as lemonade so I could pretend.. but after a few drinks my friends are too leathered to notice what I am drinking.

I've had a few wiggles this morning so all is ok today.. :D I love noone else but me knowing.. it is all snuggly and secret and I never want to share it.. just relish it all to myself..

Finding clothes to hide in is proving difficult.. leggings are my friend and my mens XL hoody today.. just keeping my hands in the pockets when standing is helping. :p

Hope you are ok after your knock Pigpen

Fluffysox - that's a nice date for your booking in and scan. He can take you for lunch before/after :)

MV - I'm sure it's a cute little baby bump. You'll have to start taking pics.

So.........I'm a little worried. Had some brown spotting today :( My practical head says brown blood is old blood, don't worry, but my pregnant head is worrying. A lot. Especially as I have cramping with it :( Oh, what to do. Realistically, I can't stop something from happening, if it's going to happen it will. I'm 5+4 so too small to see anything I guess? Wise words needed please ladies x

Try not to worry miffy. At this stage they would perhaps offer a scan? You might be to early to see baby but you may see sac etc and be reassured that alls well.
  • try reading this Miffy

general message is that spotting is quite common and nowt to worry about but call doctor or midwife to be certain
  • Miffy I had a bit of spotting with this pregnancy too about a week after my BFP, and feared the worst. However nothing more came of it, and it actually coincided with when my AF would have been.

When was your missed AF due?

It is really common to get a bit of brown spotting in the early days, but you can try and get an early scan, I had one at 4+5 and they could see a sac but no fetal pole until 6+5.

How does your local EPU dept work? Mine is a drop in one, you don't need an appointment but can be waiting a while.
