I think they can have a good idea but not a reliable enough idea to tell you if that makes sense. I had a 3d gender scan with DS2 at 16w which was the earliest they would do it.

Don't think I'm going to find out this time, I found out with ds2 and felt knowing lessened the excitement when they come out. Although it would be easier in terms of planning!

It is not possible to tell the sex before 16 weeks.. Bizarrely I don't want to know.. They will say it is a girl and I can't quite deal with that yet lol.. I have 7 girls.. when we had the last one I bawled the place down over the price of prom dresses x7 ... I was hormonal ok?! lol I have run out of girls names.. 2 each was simply too many! I may start recycling.. swap middle name for first ..

I really just want OH to have a son, is that truly selfish of me? I want my boy to be just like him, even if he is difficult and incapable of making a decision :p

    That's brilliant news Rum.

Just a quick question. Can they find out the sex of the baby at the first (12w) scan or is it too early? Also how many of you want to know? I don't so I will need to tell them before they scan me.

No, the earliest is 16 weeks, the private scan lady told me last night.

If I can't wait until my 20 week anomaly scan I may be tempted to go for one earlier!

Congrats Rum - relief is a wonderful feeling isn't it!

Hopefully I will have good news at my viability scan next week - it is valentine's day so I want a heartbeat as my valentine's present.

Everyone else has already answered, but I found out the sex of DS at 15+4. I had a private scan and the consultant only agreed to scan me because a) we were getting married 4 days later and I wanted to be able to tell people and b) He took pity on me after I told his secretary my clinical history.

Not all NHS hospitals will tell you the sex @ 20 weeks, and some only do it if mum wants to know. Obviously, all that depends on whether or not baby co-operates.

Over and Out! MV - Good luck for next week. I'm trying to keep off MSE but will be wishing you the best on the 12th.

Haha, pretty sure I will be having another boy, have got it in my head that I can't carry girls.

Maybe we can swap, or would that be against MSE rules lol.
